My dad made me memorize that when I was a kid. Not sure what he was getting at.

The passage is in reference to taking action against your lusts, desires, and corrupt actions. If you are unable to look at a women and lust over her, then cut out your eyes. If you are unable to go into the market and steal jewels, cut off your hands, etc. The idea being, be proactive in saving your soul from damnation, and remove the forces attributing to your temporal (sinful) pleasures.o.pwuaioc wrote:"And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."mjmjr25 wrote:^One more guy on SSI

Well, well, well familiar what it means. The guy probably was tricked into thinking that masturbation is bad, and thus cut off his hand in order to not be able to beat it anymore.mjmjr25 wrote:The passage is in reference to taking action against your lusts, desires, and corrupt actions. I could be wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time that scenario played out.

This guy probably thinks he is awesome for actually following the rules of the religion, unlike everyone else. However, he went to the hospital and tried to get them to reattach the arm. Why would he do that when he could have just prayed to God to have the arm reattached?J T wrote:lol. Also, what's the point of cutting off your arm if you planned on having it reattached later? Make up your mind! Do you want the arm or not? This guy is beyond insane.

There are (recently) per the UN, 7 billion people on Earth. Per numerous sources (UN, Adherents.com, and yes...wiki) there are between 5.7-5.8 billion people who associate themselves with a religion.
With that said, I never quite understand why one would go out of there way to make a negative comment on something 80%+ of us care about.

I don't see in any story where the man is quoted or referred to as religious, but rather as someone who is mentally ill. If you think that the quoted verse is meant literally, I think you don't get it and probably never will.Inazuma wrote:This guy probably thinks he is awesome for actually following the rules of the religion, unlike everyone else. Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Oh OK. So the guy is just crazy, regardless of being religious or not.Stark wrote:I don't see in any story where the man is quoted or referred to as religious, but rather as someone who is mentally ill.
