That page is kind of deceptive. The money in your pocket side combines the money you're already getting today with the further amount of tax cut the bill creates. Both sides should be showing "the difference from your taxes today", which would show you getting 1.1% back on the left side, or losing 2% on the right.

The big issue here isn't waste, too much pay for employees, or even entire departments; it's the entitlements, and health care costs being out of control will only make it worse. I read a lot about this stuff and the way things are going entitlements could easily outgrow all other spending to a degree where the federal government is little more than an insurance company with an army. To really get government spending under control, entitlements must be reformed. I think this is one thing every must agree on regardless of political viewpoints and affiliations.

Ya while sometimes great to get people back on their feet, too often these programs are apart of a persons financial plan. When someone knows these safety nets are there, they may plan accordingly an thus possibly act or spend irresponsibly. If people didn't know they had this to rely on they might make more prudent financial decisions and line up back up plans and save more money.

Once on, it is also tough to get some people off. My wifes company recently was bought out and employees were laid off. Instead of being upset, most of her coworkers were excited that it was now government paid vacation time.

This is not he intended use of these plans, but too often that is the result.

Using Unemployment Benefits as an example, I would cite that the number of people who are staying on unemployment for long periods of time (over 27 weeks) have gone up drastically and (opinion) that can be attributed to an entitlement mentality.
