Imagine how SPECIAL every game would be if you could only play it in one place or on one console. I'm sure PC gamers would love this as they wouldn't have to complain about the "consolization" of their games anymore if PC games were exclusive to that platform, and us console gamers wouldn't have to hear them complain anymore. I realize this is all nonsense though, there will ALWAYS be ports and multi-plat games for financial reasons, whether I like it or not. I'm well aware that an exclusive only industry is not financially viable
It's important to remember that multiple ports are great for cash-strapped folks. It's unreasonable to expect every gamer to own all three current gen consoles + a PC, just like it was unreasonable to assume a kid's parents would buy him/her both a SNES and Genesis back in the 1990s. I would have been devastated if games like The Lost Vikings or Lemmings or Ballz had only been released on the system I didn't own.
I'm kind of torn on the subject of console ports of PC games. Generally these games play better on the PC and I find the keyboard/mouse controls to be more fluid. On the other hand, I find myself buying more console ports these days to avoid DRM.
Gamerforlife wrote:Just kind of irritates me when I see a best of list for a console and a good chunk of that list is games that are multi-platform. I feel like, "Okay, so what the hell does this list really say about that console when it has so few games to call its own?" That's one of the reasons I think I like the PS 3 more than the 360, more exclusives so I feel like I actually spend money on that system for a good reason. PC gamers make a good point when they say that a lot of 360 games can be found on PC, which gives them no reason to buy a 360
Valid points. I remember reading some IGN "Best Games of the Year" List and the Xbox 360 and PC lists were virtually identical (Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, etc). One of the reasons I held off on buying a 360 for so long was for exactly the reason you stated: I could get everything on a PC. I did eventually cave and got the Fratbox for shmups and Tales of Vesperia.

This is actually what kind of makes portables like the DS and the PSP still cool. A lot of games are made specifically for them. If you buy a DS you get to play a bunch of cool stuff that isn't just generic game A or B that can be played on any console.
I agree. The DS and PSP exclusives are phenomenal.
My original argument wasn't that
every game should be released on every console, it would just be neat if more big-budgets games got ported to all home systems (or "reimagined" for handhelds). SKYRIM Y U NO ON WII.
