View Active Topics problem?

how do you figure?
Seems like if you only click on that you get a disjointed list and you're going to miss a lot. It only shows 60 of them. I use the full forum list and use the 'last unread post' on all of the topics I'm interested in.
You would be wrong. The "view active topics" link shows you all threads that have been posted to anywhere on the forum in the timeframe you set (24 hours, 7 days, etc.). If you visit/check the site as often as I do, this option is a godsend because it lets you see everything that's been posted on the forum without having to click on each subforum and go through them individually. As is true anywhere else, I can still click on the "new posts since last post read" (the "+" sign) on individual threads as listed in the "view active topics" list.

If you just look at "view your posts" or "view unanswered posts" you miss quite a lot. I have found I also miss things if I use the "view new posts" option also. Frankly, I can't understand how anyone with as many posts as you could stand to browse the forum in any other way OTHER than "view active topics". I submit that it is YOU, sir, who is doing it wrong.

I've always only used the "view new posts" link myself.

that seems to work about the same as "view active topics," but in the past I have found that it occasionally misses things (at least it did 2-3 years ago). It may be the same as "view active topics" now. I'd be curious to know what the official distinction is...

The only difference I can tell is that you have to be logged in to use 'view new posts'.

Ok, now I see the link you're talking about and it only showing the auction one. There are too many similar links and it is also screwy with the different forum layouts.
Frankly, I can't understand how anyone with as many posts as you could stand to browse the forum in any other way OTHER than "view active topics".
I hit the full forum list, see what has a different color to indicate new posts. Hit that section. Read the ones I want using 'view unread posts' for that particular thread. When I'm done with all the threads I want to read in a particular section, I use the 'mark topics read' to mark all the other posts I don't care about done. Then hit the next section.

hmm, perhaps my "active topics" usage goes back to my lurking days...

in any case, using "new posts" seems to work as a fine substitute while "active topics" is down. I seem to think that once upon a time "new posts" would only show me things that were new since I last clicked on "new posts", but that too may have been a long time ago.

Those of you who don't have it working, are you using the old theme?
I wonder if the software upgrade broke the link on the old theme...
