Re: Super Mario 3d Land
I beat the game in the first 24 hours of owning it, and only about 4 of those hours were spent playing it. It is a really short game, and definitely the easiest Mario game I've ever played (I finished with well over 100 extra lives). It was, however, extremely enjoyable, and the best portable Mario game yet.

I was gonna let it slide but... yeah. Seriously. That's a pretty big claim, man. Admittedly, I only played this for about a half hour. But it didn't exactly make me excited. My wife felt the same way. So I don't think it's the GBGeek in me being spiteful.ZeroAX wrote:Those are big words. EDIT: though I guess if the game only takes 4 hrs to complete, then I played 1/8th of it...

Oh, I didn't realize it was a port of Super Mario Land 2. Excellent.lisalover1 wrote:and the best portable Mario game yet.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Super Mario 3d Land
There are people who prefer 2D Mario games, and there are people who prefer 3D ones. I think you two fall into the opposite categories. I'm not saying SM3DL is better than Super Mario Land or SML2, or vice versa. They're two completely separate genres, so who can say which is better? It's subjective.noiseredux wrote:I was gonna let it slide but... yeah. Seriously. That's a pretty big claim, man. Admittedly, I only played this for about a half hour. I will say that this is one of the best games of the year, and certainly IS one of Mario's best handheld outings. The game is just pure fun, which is getting harder and harder to find these days. I can die a few times, and though I get unhappy, I just try harder. It's not a game that makes me want to just quit. I want to do better because I love playing it.

I don't know dude. Have you played the Mario Galaxy games?YoshiEgg25 wrote: There are people who prefer 2D Mario games, and there are people who prefer 3D ones. The Mario Land titles were games which were different enough to not be directly compared to their console counterparts. (well 2 was the closest one to a standard Mario game, but it was so good it surpassed SMW in my book which was way too by the book).
But from what I tried in the store, this game is way too much like a shorter version of Super Mario Galaxy. Actually it seemed even less daring than Mario Galaxy compared to Mario galaxy
I think it was the same with NSMB DS. It was fun, but really it was an improvement on SMB, not SMB3 and SMW or SML2...

Re: Super Mario 3d Land
yeah NSMB DS let me down. It was really fun, but I killed it in a few short hours and felt zero need to replay it. It was just so 2D Mario-by-numbers to me.ZeroAX wrote: I think it was the same with NSMB DS. It was fun, but really it was an improvement on SMB, not SMB3 and SMW or SML2...

Re: Super Mario 3d Land
I have played the first Galaxy game. It does feel like Galaxy at times, no question. But is that a particularly bad thing? It takes what I feel is the best of both 2D and 3D. I love how the game is a side-scroller, but takes place in 3D space.ZeroAX wrote: I don't know dude. Have you played the Mario Galaxy games?

Yeah not making sense here, am I? ....it seemed like a step back from a game that it is copying. Not only not doing anything new, but also not doing some of the stuff its big brother did.

You may consider it a step back, but I'm happy with what I got. I got a new Mario game that I can pick up and play for ten minutes and happens to be portable.
