Super Mario 3d Land

Post by jay_red »

Who else picked this up today? I got it as soon as Best Buy opened and played it non stop for about 3 hours, actually had to plug in my 3ds for the first time from a straight play through.

The game is a blast, and the reviews have been spot on. The game play is a cool mix of New Super Mario bros. and Mario 64. Controls are spot on, the music is excellent, and the 3d is actually useful and not an annoyance. Im finding it pretty challenging, some levels took me quite a few tries to get past. One interesting thing that I am not sure about is that if you due too many times (it seems like 4 or 5) there will be a box containing a Tanooki Leaf that makes you invincible the rest of the level. Pretty much a way to get kids through the harder parts I would think. I used it on accident because I didnt know what it was. Now I avoid it, calling it the cheater box haha.

So who else got it and what are your thoughts?

I got it, liking it so far, but it seems kinda easy. Maybe it will get harder latter on.

It is really weird there is a run button in a 3d mario game. Other than the run button I have no gripes. Its also interesting to note that with up and down on the d-pad you can change the 3d view, from going inward to popping out. It doesn't really look like its popping out but that mode has a better viewing angle.

I didnt know about the view change cool. I heard after the 8th world it gets wayyy harder, but honestly I find it to be at a good level currently, I am on the 6th world boss.

I got this on Friday. It is pretty short and easy but that is fine by me. There really isn't anything new here, though, and I keep wondering why I continue to buy all of these Mario games. I guess in this case because it is an actual good game for the 3DS that's not a friggin' remake.

Walked a total of five miles to get it, and just played. It's pretty damn fun, though Mario seems a little slow.

Can't wait to play more of it.

Just got past world 8, to where the difficulty kicks up a bit. Only played to the 2nd level after, but it was pretty difficult and I had to give my thumbs a rest, must have put 5+ hours on it today.

Now I need to get a Wii for Skyward Sword next weekend. Nintendo sure is getting things right this holiday season!

The IGN review says the 3D is almost mandatory in certain areas. Is this true? I've played a 3DS for about 2 minutes in the store and the 3D sets my eyes on fire.

Yeah, it is. But honestly, it works REALLY well and you almost won't notice it. Plus, you probably don't know how the 3D slider works. :P

The 3D is not mandatory in any way. You can play the entire game with the 3D off. Nintendo even says you can play it in 2D or 3D. The parts where 3D helps are the little Solstice-like rooms where you need to jump on a block to get the goody, but the block isn't where it appears. You can rotate the screen in 2D mode to see where the block is.
