Suggest a SNK fighter for me
Actually, you're wrong. The MAME emulation of the game is more accurate than the DC port. The DC port is horrendous and you should have recommended the PS2 port, if anything.vlame wrote:no, burn it for dc. NGBC you can get for under $20 new.doctorfugue wrote:Thanks! Is the MAME version of MOTW accurate? I'm going to try it out before I pick up a copy.
But seriously, check out MOTW. And if anyone here is good at the game and would like to get in some matches, message me!
since when was mame godlike? neoragex has better input timing.

Well, Lodestar may believe what he's stating, but he's way off the mark. Even serious Neo Geo enthusiasts have been rating the DC release as just about perfect.

Now, he's talking about the Japanese release, but the US release of MoTW is altered less than the Last Blade 2 release here in the US, so his worries turned out to be largely unfounded.

OK, I'm posting this same message in 2 threads. There's been some heat on the Dreamcast US version of Fatal Fury (Garou): Mark of the Wolves lately. I booted it up just today to take a look.
The only problem I can find with this game, in comparison to the Neo Geo version, is that most people only have the default Dreamcast controller. If you have a 6-button fighter pad or a joystick the experience should be arcade perfect with the exception of the slightly retouched music. Talk of sound delays? I can't find them. All the hit noises and grunts are spot on. A couple characters have cries or move name that sound a little late, but that's just how the moves go. When Kushnood Butt zips in close (down to back + light kick) his voice sample doesn't start until he's almost done with the quick move, but it's perfectly natural and a check of the Neo Geo ROM confirms the sound timing is the same.
Also, the control timing and input is the same, accounting for controller differences of course. Whiners on the Dreamcast version of Mark of the Wolves either just don't like the game very much or they haven't played some comparison games back to back.

Thanks for the info! I'm planning on getting one of the JP releases, do you know of any differences between them? I've heard the later Playmore release is not as good for some reason. And some people tend to complain about the Playmore re-releases in general.marurun wrote:OK, I'm posting this same message in 2 threads. Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant what is the difference between the two JP DC releases of this game. There is the original SNK JP release, and then a later JP release (with slightly different cover art) that was made after Playmore took over (that review only covers the first release, unless I'm just blind!). Apparently, the Playmore "Best Buy" re-releases are inferior and I was just wondering if someone could confirm this.marurun wrote:Read the Neo Geo review I linked previously. It doesn't compare anything to the US version, but it does tell you what's on the JP version.
Edit again: I'm asking because the JP re-release is much cheaper, and I'm wondering if the original JP release is better.
