You don't need no stinkin map! Seriously, you don't need a map until you get an airship, and then so long as you follow the landmass and islands, you should find nearly everything pretty easily.

I do however remember getting lost for a while in the desert around Kaipo. Could be bad if you needed to make it to the city after grinding for a while!

Oh, and I'm playing through that now too! It's a game I can easily play once a year.

I am glad SF is the together retro game of the month. Such a great series an needs to be appreciated by even more gamers. The shining force series started me off on my love for SRPGs back in 6th grade.

I wonder who's beaten or knows the game more... you or bruno.

And yeah guys, I definitely plan to jump on the Shining Force bandwagon soon! Can't wait.

Probably bruno, as I've never played The After Years or anything on the GBA, DS (except for a bit of emulation), or PSP. I'm actually working on a walkthrough, but I wonder if that would just be too unnecessary, as there are already quite a few. Would slight errors in previous faqs/walkthroughs justify a new one, perhaps one more in depth?

Heh, well I don't think you're missing too much, but I do recommend checking out the PSP version sometime. Like bruno and I were saying in that other FFIV thread though, it's easy as pie. But the new visuals were great and although it has the arranged DS music that I didn't like, you can turn on the classic music too so that rocked. I would love to see FFV and maybe even FFVI redone in that style. It was a fresh coat of paint while still looking true to the original art design and everything.

Has a crap ton of extras too, like being able to switch up your party at the end of the game, a huge extra dungeon at the end of the game that sounds as long as the entire game itself, etc... I didn't care to bother with this stuff (or the extras in FFII PSP and FFV Advance), but yeah. More power to the people that want to get the ultimate mileage out of these versions, lol.

Another walkthrough might be a bit overkill, but who knows, if your guide can bring things to the table others haven't then maybe you should think about it. But yeah the GBA/PSP versions are worth a look, definitely a cool update. The WSC version is even worth a romp if you don't mind the Japanese. The DS version didn't do it for me at all though, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Yeah I can see why since you were power playing them and all. The post game extras probably carry a lot more weight when you're playing the game as a new release. I didn't mess with the FF II extras much myself either, but I thought it was a really cool idea.

The FF I Soul of Chaos stuff was awesome though, you should consider giving that a run sometime. It's a series of 4 dungeons based off FF III, IV, V, and VI, that feature bosses and references from each of the games. It's really cool, it's like you're playing each of those games but inside FF I. They give you VERY powerful gear too, which you're going to need if you plan on doing the incredibly difficult Labyrinth of Time dungeon.

In the PSP version, the boss themes got sick remixes too.

Holy hot dogs that rendition of Gilgamesh's theme is pretty cool. So were those extras only in the PSP version? I think I actually did all the extra stuff in FFI back when I played the PSX version... but that stuff doesn't ring a bell. Well FFI is an easy fun romp I've beaten twice, guess I'll have to pickup the PSP version someday too heh.

Just started up Ys: Oath in Felghana for the PSP seems pretty cool so far.
