Yes they are. But I can't seem to find it thru navigating the menus ... the only way I spot 'em is if the banner for "Classic PS2 Games" pops up.

I was thrilled by this news. I'd love to get Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, Ace Combat 5, Gradius V and Contra Shattered Soldier digitally. I have them on disc but am one of those anti-clutter freaks. I didn't vote in the poll because of the wording. But I've lurked around here long enough to know there is as much a membership of retro game collectors as there is retro game players to not be surprised by the slant.

and it happens all the time, which is why when a classic game becomes available for download the physical copies go UP and not DOWN.
In my experience the effect downloads have on the prices of games is so completely random that its useless to speculate.

How do these releases "look"? Is it cleaner than throwing a PS2 disc into a PS2 backwards compatible PS3?

And what about load times for games like Oden Sphere? Is there any artificial loading?

I am NOT a collector. So my opinion won't be valued, but I would much rather own digital copies of video games. I just don't have the space and resources to have such a hobby. I've owned many systems and gotten rid of them all, because of space and just getting money to buy other systems. It's a convenience thing for me.

Of course it is possible. The later backwards compatible PS3s were using software emulation instead of hardware. Perhaps there is more to it?
Not emulation
Just like HD God of War, the PS2 Downloads are recoded to run in the PS3. Not clear if the downloads are HD as in the HD disc compilations. A repurchase of the same PS2 game as a download? No thanks.
not true from the reversing they have been doing since FW 3.41 (the dongle days) they have seen that not only does the software emulator PSP emulator (when mini support was add'd) as well as the according BIOS for each device emulated,

Further more using these files they have figured out how to boot PS1 back-ups (discs only) to launch. I honestly believe that the PS2 ability is disabled in the FW of the device some where.

How ever you are right bout games like GoW HD they were recoded as well as adapted to the blu-ray media format, why they did that when they can simply enable PS2 support i have no clue, but ill put my money on the fact it is simply because they wish to continue selling PS2 hardware ;) .

EDIT:
More Food For Thought:
there was also a tool called PSX to EBOOT (i think that was the name) for the PSP it converts a PS1 ISO to a PSP compatible format, i am a firme beleiver that there is also a way to make such a tool for PS1 and PS2 games to run on PS3 in the same fassion its just a matter of re-compiling the existing PS1/PS2 file into the correct format for the PS3 to read and understand much like that tool did
