I don't have much to say about this other than I expected it. It is Sony after all.
That reminds me, did the Xbox games on Xbox Live ever take off or did it just sort of flop? I certainly don't recall seeing anything recent about them. Then again, all 360s are backwards compatible with Xbox games. Since the majority of PS3s aren't, perhaps this will see more success.

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Sony brings PS2 downlaods to PSN
As far as I know, regular Xbox compatibility with the 360 is there but is limited. I haven't even tried since I have a Japanese 360.

Re: Sony brings PS2 downlaods to PSN
so then software PS2 emulation IS possible on non-BC models of PS3. That's funny. I could have sworn several members here called such a thing "a myth."
Re: Sony brings PS2 downlaods to PSN
Of course it is possible. The later backwards compatible PS3s were using software emulation instead of hardware. Perhaps there is more to it?noiseredux wrote:so then software PS2 emulation IS possible on non-BC models of PS3. That's funny. I could have sworn several members here called such a thing "a myth."

"Xbox Originals" was a major flop or something apparently. They ceased putting new games up years ago, which is lame because there's still plenty of Xbox games not up there that aren't supported on the 360 (Otogi games, Invisible War, Serious Sam 1-2, etc).

Just like HD God of War, the PS2 Downloads are recoded to run in the PS3. Not clear if the downloads are HD as in the HD disc compilations. A repurchase of the same PS2 game as a download? No thanks.

It's pretty clear. The article says this:CRTGAMER wrote:Not emulationZenErik wrote:Of course it is possible. The later backwards compatible PS3s were using software emulation instead of hardware. So its just a ps2 version of the ps1 classics. These won't pack PSN Trophies or enhanced visuals. These are the games as they appeared on the PS2.
Re: Sony brings PS2 downlaods to PSN
I'm not surprised really. This along with Sony wanting PS2's to continue flying off shelves is probably why PS2 compatibility was stripped from the PS3's.
Re: Sony brings PS2 downlaods to PSN
I can't spin this as bad news. Sorry, guys.
Re: Sony brings PS2 downlaods to PSN
It's fairly limited since the architecture is different - I think they need drivers/emulation tweaks on a per-game basis. A good number of the bigger hits are supported, but not everything, and the system needs to download support files for each new game (last I'd messed with it).ZenErik wrote:As far as I know, regular Xbox compatibility with the 360 is there but is limited.
