Same here, it was my first horror film (I was 7-8 years old) and I saw it on a neighbors house after they said "COME ALONG, WE'RE SEEING POLTERGEIST, IT'S A HORROR FILM FOR KIDS!", I said yes. Lets just say I quickly hid anything clown related that night.

I know but it's just that now and then the MPAA is very inconsistent, Rob Zombie had to submit The Devil's Rejects over 15 times just because they didn't like the tone of the movie.
