C64 was definitely great for games. It was my first "console" when I was like 5 or 6. Haha.

Because I have a lot more experience with Apple II than C64. I don't know C64 anywhere near as good as I know Apple II.BurningDoom wrote:You place Apple II above C64? I'd probably go with either the Amiga or ST. If you're interested in the Amiga, I'd suggest picking up an A600 or A1200 as those have PCMCIA slots, which you can use to load games from through programs like WHDLoad. In this way, you don't have to use the floppy drive to play games from. With the ST, you can actually write ST floppies on a PC as long as you format the floppy as a 720K disk, IIRC. There's also a device for the ST called the UltraSatan which emulates a floppy drive and runs floppy images off SD cards.
As for the IIGS, it's nice in that it's backwards compatible with the Apple II, but there's not a whole lot going for it gaming-wise besides that. If you still want to get into the Apple II, I'd suggest the IIc which is small and has a built-in floppy drive.

Interesting to know. Where can you buy an ultrasatan? I looked into making floppies with a pc that could be used on an ST, but it seemed too complicated/not possible. If you have the ultra satan, can you just run the 'roms' that you can download anywhere?ApolloBoy wrote:I'd probably go with either the Amiga or ST. Your ideal solution would be trying to fmd a reasonably-priced Amiga A1200; the most powerful and compatible Amiga computer. There are a ton of games for it, and you can use a different OS than Windows; which should be an interesting experience.

The Amiga had Chris Hulsbeck.
So yeah.
So yeah.

All I know is that the Amiga has an awesome library. That's where I'd go.

Re: Which 16-bit computer is better to collect for.
Just wondering but if I were to buy an Amiga with no system disks could it still play games? Also would anyone happen to have a Amiga 1000 for sale with the expanded memory on the front and possibly bottom. For some reason really like the look of the Amiga 1000 or maybe a Apple IIGS? or a Amiga 1200, USA preferably.

I'm not that familiar with the Amiga. I would think the kick start discs operating system bootup is built into each disc game. The Amiga 500 is probably easier and cheaper to find then the larger Amiga series, but it is still not very common. The 8 bit C64 is probably a lot easier to find then an Amiga, Apple GS or Atari ST.ATARI800XLfan wrote:Just wondering but if I were to buy an Amiga with no system disks could it still play games?
