but suffice to say, I enjoyed it. I didn't see the last act coming until it was just about underway, and I didn't find the gruesome scenes to be as horrible as they are in more recent films....but I was very impressed with the film's tackling of the subjects it did, in the way it did, in 1972! It is hard to believe the film was made two years before Texas Chainsaw Massacre would just blow the top off the genre...

By far the highlight was the whimsical soundtrack juxtaposed perfectly with everything going on. The performances were believable (for the most part) and the social commentary was smart. Overall a nice introduction to early Craven!
1. did you notice the song re-used in Cabin Fever?
2. did you notice that Home Alone's final act is a rip-off of LHOTL's final act?

He's even more terrifying in Ruggero Deodato's (The same guy that did Cannibal Holocaust) House On The Edge Of The Park, it's 1000 times more graphic and disturbing than TLHOTL and David Hess is pure nightmare fuel in that film.

is Linnea Quigley in that, or am I thinking of another one? House By The Cemetery maybe?

Fulci - I've seen Zombi 2 (and I think 3). What else is requisite?
Argento - only seen his two Masters of Horror episodes
West - haven't seen any...noise seems not to be a fan?
Kurosawa - where should I start?

Fucli = 7 Doors Of Death.

Argento = Opera. I've seen almost everything he's done, and honestly, I tend to think he's overrated. But Opera is incredible. Susperia is good too though.

West = House Of The Devil is AMAZING. See it. All his films prior have been not worth seeing though.

By Fulci: The Beyond, House By The Cemetary, The New York Ripper, The Psychic (Probably the only tame film he's ever made) and The Black Cat.
Argento: Suspiria, Tenebre, Deep Red, Phenomena (It's the first film in which Jeniffer Connelly plays a main role), Mother Of Tears and Opera are really good.
West: The House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers (I saw it on a screener though  ). The upcoming horror short anthology The ABC's Of Death also feature a short made by him
Kiyoshi Kurosawa: Kairo (Pulse), Cure, Sweet Home (Yes, the film that's based on the NES RPG/Survival Horror by Capcom), Tokyo Sonata (Not horror but it's still fantastic).

Nope, but the blonde guy from Cannibal Ferox is in it  . BTW, if you live in the UK don't buy it there, it's cut by a whooping 12+ minutes. In comparison not even I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust or A Serbian Film are that cut in the UK.

Donnie Darko is not a horror movie per se, but nevertheless, it's one I always watch around this time of year. It's creepy and culminates in the doom that is Halloween night. I've been a fan of this movie since it hit DVD, and have seen it countless times. It only gets better for me with each viewing.

The acting is phenomenal in my opinion. Everone. Jake G gives off a horrified vibe, even when he's trying to be a prick to people. And Jenna Malone is amazing as this sort of tough-girl who is obviously just as horrified as he.

As Richard Kelly's first film -- this is a bit of a curse. It's too fucking good. Southland Tales was actually great, but far too ambitious and not as subtly perfect as this. I've yet to see The Box in its entirety.

One thing I truly adore about this movie is how believably 80's it is. It's not like one of those movies where they just throw some skids and Body Glove on kids and tell them to say things like "bodacious" or "tubular" or whatever. It feels very real about its period setting.

OH and the music! What a great fucking soundtrack. The score is nice too, but I wish they had released an actual soundtrack of the Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division, Church, Tears for Fears, etc. I suppose I could just burn a playlist...

I should mention too that Frank (the Harvey allusion obvious) is also pretty scary to me. The voice. The face.

Just a great movie. Like I said, not sure I'd call it horror? Maybe dramatic horror? Maybe horrifying drama?

5/5
