For next time. What you did was so simple, just updating a browser, that the only thing that would make both browsers die would have to be either an outage or a virus. The former you would know from the lights on the modem, and Malwarebytes being able to update itself pretty much confirms the latter. At least it's fixed now!

Except that the modem is in another room, so I wouldn't/don't notice when (or if) the lights fluctuated. I'm on a wireless connection.

But yes, it is fixed, and I know a little bit more for the future.
