Platformers(in all their different forms), beat'em ups(an of course hack n slashers), adventure/puzzle games(like Ico, Tomb Raider, Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, Primal, etc)and I also enjoy anything that reminds me of arcades. I also like rpgs but I don't play that many of them because they are far too time consuming and they are far, far, FAR too many of them. I usually just get my fix from whatever the latest Final Fantasy game is and not bother with anything else in the genre. I used to love 2-d fighters, but now it's more of a nostalgia thing.
I play games from almost any genre though, but those seem to be my favorites.

I just play ET on the Atari 2600 and nothing else. Is there anything else worth playing out there?
Oh the goodness.
Oh the goodness.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Action/Adventure games are those that occupy my time the most. As far as sports games, I tend to only play the Pro Evolution soccer series and any good tennis related game. So I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Top Spin 3 tennis game.

2-D Fighters, RPGs (preference for the ones from Japan, despite the rather abundant clichés), Action-Adventure, Lucas Arts Adventure games or their Telltale spin-offs, and Metal Gear (which is quickly becoming the mutant child of sneaking and FPS genres). Oh, and RPG-Strategy. And whatever the hell Shenmue is.

I've been thinking about these pair of threads for the last couple of days and I'm struggling to think of a clear winner. I like most kinds of shooters, 2D fighters, arcade racing games, sandbox games, strategy, puzzle games, and lightgun games and I play a good mix of all of them so its hard to decide what I like best but since I hate fence sitters I'm going to plum for shooters, and I had to pick a sub-genre from that it would have to either first or third person.
