honestly, Golden Axe Warrior is such an awesome game, I'd be really upset if we opted out. PLUS, fans of 3D Dot Game Heroes will probably love how similar the heroes are in both games.

Why does (the original) have to be so elusive.
Oh well, worse case scenario I could emulate it.

yeah it's very easy to emulate on everything.
DUDE look at this:

3D Dot Game is always thought of as a Zelda homage, but it obviously goes much deeper. It's beyond apparent to me that they had Golden Axe Warrior in mind when they created their hero "sprite."

dude, I'm putting my reputation on the line here. I just don't see us being disappointed with that pick as a community. I mean, I stopped playing it BECAUSE it was so good I wanted all you guys to play it with me.Opa Opa wrote:you really want golden axe warrior don't you noise?

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

I still think an Ys title would be a good pick despite similarity in gameplay to zelda-esque titles.
I'm not saying to replace Golden Axe Warrior. I'm saying put it in the RPG month. Ys games tend to put an emphasis on leveling up and buying better equipment unlike zelda-ish games.

alright. I guess I'm done with this thread. Nothing else to add.
Good luck TR team! Hope we get a good list!

boo to the horis. Also, the R-Type games are almost as hard as the Gradius games, and I don't know if any of us want to have flashbacks to Gradius III...o.pwuaioc wrote:January (Adventure): Golden Axe Warrior ✓
February (Fighter): (?)

April (Sports/Racer): Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 ✓
May (FPS): Wolfenstein 3D ✓
June (Strategy): (?)
July (Run-n-Gun/Beat-em-up): Guardian Heroes/Gunstar Heroes ✓
August (Party): Bomberman ✓ (If no one's taken to the Supercade idea, can we do multiple versions? Not like there's *that* much of a difference)
September (Platformer): Sparkster ✓
October (Horror): Maniac Mansion ✓ a Crush pinball game (?)
November (Puzzle): a Puyo puyo game (?)
December (Shmup): (?)
Current Thoughts:
RPG: Ys III had major releases for Genesis, SNES, TurboGrafx-CD, MSX2, and a later port to PS2. Ys I had no North American carts released.
Strategy: Yggdra Union is only five years old and is still available for the PSP, which does not make it retro. Likewise, Advance Wars is only 10 years old. Both Command and Conquer and Ogre Battle are retro, but clearly Ogre Battle is the better game.![]()
Shmup: I'm going back and keeping the R-Type hope alive by pushing R-Type III. Not only was it released for the SNES, but also later ported to the GBA and has a Virtual Console release. It's cheap and easy to find and still fun.
Anyway...
I think I mostly agree with your estimation of the thread. THPS2 and Episode 1 Pod Racer both have a lot of support, though, so I don't know if that's settled. We did already play a SW game this year...
I think Strategy is coming down to Ogre Battle vs. Command and Conquer. I've voiced my support for the former...you make excellent points about Yggdra and AW.
I don't think there's any universal agreement on Sparkster. To me it seems to be between Out of This World and Spakster. I'd support the former, in part because I bet I could get an interview.
I think RPG is shaping up to be Baldur's Gate vs Ys I, but it may be too early to call. It seems like Ys I is a lot like Golden Axe Warrior, though...
I have no idea where we are on the discussion of a fighter, other than that there seems to be much more support for something 3D than any of the 2D suggestions. I have less clue on a puzzle game choice.

I wasn't going to post any more but I'd absolutely LOVE an interview that had something to do with OotW.

Re: Together Retro 2012 Nominations & Discussion Thread
Puzzle really has come down to Puyo Puyo vs Puzzle League it seems. Most people interested in the category seem happy whichever way it goes.
Whilst Pod Racer has seemed fairly popular, I wouldnt say its clearly outshone most of the other popular racing choices like f zero, sega rally, wave race and wipeout. it's just been mentioned more recently. I think THPS2 has had more support than any one racing game has had.
