I dunno about you guys but I buy a ton of Japanese PS2 games CIB in excellent condition for just a few dollars each, on Ebay. $10 is way the hell overpriced for most games, especially considering you aren't even buying it. It's a lease with restrictions on what you can do with it.

PS2 games on PSN are just a horrible deal all around. Maybe if the physical version is super rare or expensive, you may be able to justify it. Other than that, it's a joke.

Or, not to nitpick Ryan, since its not easy to please everyone, you could phrase it a $10 DL vs a $10 CIB copy. My vote wouldn't change, in fact, it would have to skew waaay in the other direction. I'd rather pay large monies for a CIB copy of Gaia Seed than a $6 DL anyday...and I did. And when i'm done w/it, i'll get those large monies back, can't say that about your $6.

EDIT: And...Yes, yes, yes, I'm aware Gaia is psx, but it was brought up earlier in the thread.

I regularly see PS2 games for 2.99 or less, many of which are probably well worth the price. I see God of War and Jak and Daxter go for that regularly.

EDIT: and I'm talking about CIB copies.

To add another perspective...

I don't own a modded and/or Japanese PS2. I'm limited to what I can play.

If all I want to do is play a few Japanese exclusives; this is the best way to do it. It'd be a lot cheaper to download games than either buy a J-PS2 or pay someone to mod my ps2 & pay shipping both ways. This isn't even including the cost of the games.

Well said. On the other hand it'll be a little annoying if the PS2 selection ends up being 20x better for Japan, but ... well that wouldn't be too unpredictable, and not a big deal since as you and others have been saying it's very easy to create a Japanese PSN account. No hassle with having to mod stuff or anything.

Not that modding consoles to expand your library is a bad thing, of course!

Other things to keep in mind:

-possible space issues. do you really have enough room for more games?
-since it's PSN you'll be able to transfer between systems.
-just speculation, mind you, but could we see Vita compatibility?

I just want everyone to know that I like snakes.
Snakes like me.
Together the DRM snakes and I will take over the video game distribution business and I will reign like Serpentor over all game releases.
Just sayin...

The dollar difference reflects some of the games prices as a PSN Download compared to Gamestop used disc of the same game. Right now nine people would buy the cheaper disc, but six would buy a more expensive download of the same game! :? :?:

DRM downloads are part of culture because of ignorant convenience.

You have to figure for some people there's a few advantages to downloading the game on to the PS3:

No discs to put in/swap/store = convenience
games readily available to play anytime on the HD (can't do this on a PS3 with PS2 discs) = convenience
I assume the games will have minor upscaling along the lines of what the BC PS3 has...
Virtual memory cards
Bluetooth controllers
potential for future Vita playability?

These are all things you get with a PSN PS2 game that you don't get by just popping a PS2 disc into your PS3. Sure, you can HDLoader on a PS2, buy wireless controllers, etc. - but there's a lot to be said for playing the games on the PS3.

Is all that worth the $7 difference? For me, that answer will sometimes be yes.
