No game has universal agreement so far, but it seems that there's a lot of consensus as a first or second choice around these:
Golden Axe Warrior
Wolfenstein 3D
Maniac Mansion
Ogre Battle
and there's a few with a clear pair to choose between at this point
Gunstar Heroes vs Guardian Heroes (do both, i say!)
Sparkster vs Out of This World
Baldur's Gate vs. a JRPG
the other categories still seem up in the air based on discussion, as there are a lot of suggestions for each or not many people speaking up...
I am sure I missed some stuff...how's it look to everyone else so far?
at least how this thread reads to me, others noticing these or other patterns yet?

Re: Together Retro 2012 Nominations & Discussion Thread
I agree with doing Treasure Double Month.
I think on a few we need to narrow things down. Like we should first decide to we want to do Sports or Racing month? Then that should help us decide on which title. Same with the Party vs Rhythm vs Pinball thing. Narrow it down to a choice of genre then target in on specific title. Same with JRPG vs WRPG.

1. With the one exception of WWF Royal Rumber or maybe Konami's Blades of Steel, I really don't see very many sports titles attracting me. That said, not many racing games listed so far I want to play for a month.
2. Definitely party, and Bomberman should be it. It's such an epic game, and it's something we can actually all play together.
3. Really it comes down to what Dave said: Baldur's Gate or Dragon Warrior/Quest. I'm down for either, but I've never made it very far through Dragon Warrior, so that's a personal thing. One thing we should stipulate is that if one is done this year, the other should be done next year, especially since there's a lot of support for both.

I want to do a Commander Keen game sometime, preferably episode 4 or 5. Those games are awesome PC 2D platformers, and they are easily (and perfectly) emulated via DosBox.

My preferences, for the record:
January:
Golden Axe Warrior
February:
Anything. I adore Dead or Alive as a series though, as well as Soul Calibur. I really have no preference here though.
March:
Anything that's not Dragon Quest.
April:
Racing would be my choice, either Wipeout or F-zero. Or Outrun. If we go sports though, I'm ok with any of the Tennis titles mentioned. That sounds fun.
May:
Wolf/Doom/Quake.
June:
Ogre Battle
July:
Gunstar/Guardian Heroes. I'm all for both. Gunstar is an old favorite, but I still haven't played Guardian, and its high time I did. Plus, some of us should be able to play the Xbox Live version of it together, which would be awesome.
August:
Space Channel 5. This is clearly a minority choice, since most everybody seems to want Bomberman, but that's my vote just the same.
September:
Sparkster, both versions. This franchise is an old favorite and I've beaten them all more times than I can count, but I think more people should try them out, and I'm interested in hearing people's comparisons between the genesis version (the actual Rocket Knight sequel) and the snes version (the spinoff/sidestory).
October:
No preference. Silent Hill is fantastic though, and it'd give me good excuse to play the remake.
November:
Puyo Puyo, no doubt.
December:
Anything. I know fuck all for shmups, so I'll try whatever you hardcore shmup fans think would be good.
As for pinball, if it happens to get placed on the list somewhere, my choice is Sonic Spinball, because I love that game.

Baldur's Gate will probably have you reading dialogue for hours at a time.
JRPG's will probably have you fighting random battles for hours at a time.
CHOOSE YOUR POISON!
Also people are leaning towards Wolf3D? Yuuuuuuuuck.

As for the rpg thing, I don't care if we go J or W, I just don't want Dragon Quest.
If that's the way it goes anyway, so be it, I won't complain, just saying.

I've probably played more Doom than any game in the universe, but I just can't do Wolf3D. Sure I can respect it laid the grounds for Doom to follow, but yeah. I can't get into it at all.
