Maybe young people don't understand RPG

Young people understand RPGs. Most of them just have other things to do that are more fun and less demanding.

Well, since he was talking about RPGs as if they weren't popular, I assumed he meant JRPGs. If that's not what he meant, then I don't know what he's thinking.

But that's what confuses me. Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls are massively popular, but even if he's talking about JRPG's there's still quite a lot of those flooding the market.

Not having kept up at all with modern games, what JRPGs are flooding the market? Are any good, or are they all crap? Just wondering...

There's a bunch. It's not as many as the 6th generation, but there's still quite a good amount. Now, I'll admit, the majority of western gamer's think they're crap. Especially the younger ones. But that's a problem with the gamer's more than the games.

Well, I was actually excluding the handhelds in what I was saying because everyone already knows about that. I don't have the patience to make a list, but trust me they're out there.

It's easier for a kid to sit down and play a 20 minute session of CoD than it is to play an RPG for a few hours. Either way, there are still plenty of RPGs, and many more games that carry RPG elements though not fitting in to what we'd normally call an RPG.

I used to detest RPGs. I hated them. With every little bone in my body. Then a few years ago I got my feet wet with some wRPGs like KOTOR and Oblivion. Now I'm making my way through the first Shining Force game, and loving it (though technically it's an sRPG).

I think it comes with patience, which is something most kids don't have.

I wasn't trolling earlier, just maybe being a bit vague. I thought I made my case at least as well as the OP did. Ryan essentially voiced my feelings on this (apart from the hate-- I've never hated RPGs) in better detail just now, so I doubt I need to elaborate now.

RyaN, just my opinion, but since RPGs are already a type of strategy game, I don't think you should have to treat SRPGs as a separate genre.
