Got a ticket for the stupidest thing today.

Two things:

My mother died not wearing her seatbelt.

My brother survived by not wearing his seatbelt.

I don't think we should be too hard on op. Presumably if he's driving a classic car he's not flying down the highway. I honestly don't think it's as big a deal as some are making it out to be.

I'm going to guess that you were speeding. I've never seen a speed limit posted that wouldn't allow me to see ahead of me with enough time to stop.

Also, this:

And a hearty  at:

I was driving about 45 MPH. It was raining. And there was a small hill that blocked my view of that part of the road until I was very close. The guy that I hit was trying to make a left turn across both directions of traffic, but he stopped his car on my side, right in the middle of both lanes. He didn't see me coming because of the small hill, once again.

There was no center lane for him to use. He should have made sure that both sides were clear before moving out, but he chose to block traffic one way, while he waited for the other side to clear up.

Because of that hill, I think that section of the street should have a slower speed limit. Now when I drive on that road, I purposely go a little slower just in case there is something stopped just over the hill.

By the way, both of us had normal cars. If either one of us was driving a truck or SUV, we would have been tall enough to see over the hill.

My 62 Impala didn't have belts, I think it was optional back then. To comply with the seat belt law I put two lap belts in the front seats. Lap belts don't offer the protection of shoulder belts or air bags, but its better then flying thru the windshield or wearing a steering wheel. Easy to install, a few holes drilled in the floorboard and run bolts with nuts underneath.

The real question is, would you ride to die?
