You know I did not even think of this, I figured all cabs would have a hinged control panels to have access to the buttons and joysticks.

So is it common for any cabs other than a Neo Geo to have a hinged control panel?

they do, but usually not near where the PCB is mounted. Also, if you get a cabinet that is more than one slot the motherboard is actually mounted on a shelf directly under the control panel, which makes swapping carts as easy as putting them in a console.

Honestly, I'd say spring the extra cash and get yourself a nice two or four slot setup.

Yeah I have a 2 slot cab so I have a shelf right there. Would the control panel still flip down like mine? Would some one be able to just build a shelf and route the JAMMA harness to the self? I am just looking for some further knowledge myself.

It all depends on the cab really. Some flip down, others pull right out of the cabinet when you pop their latches.

You could build a shelf if you feel like putting the work into it. It shouldn't be very difficult, it's all up to you and how much work you would want to put into the cabinet.

Also, keep in mind that JAMMA and MVS are different wiring standards. If you plan on putting a MVS motherboard that is more than one slot (single slot motherboards are mono, so they're fine) be sure the harness has been modified for it. JAMMA sound wiring is different than MVS (it's mono), and putting a multi-slot board on a JAMMA harness without using an an adapter will not produce sound and can damage your PCBs.

Yeah I have a JAMMA to MVS cab adapter for JAMMA setups in my cab.

Question for Xeoloux. Have you went and played the cab and checked it out yet?

I concure. I see single slot conversions go for $100, with proper buttons and larger monitors. Better to wait it out. I'd say the MVS is worth $30-50, FF is worthless and glitched Bad Dudes $10-20(??? no idea really). So $100 for a 2-button, capkit-needin' 13" monitor arace cabinet...meh.

But it things are cab dry in Wisconsin, it's your call. It's definitely a fixer-upper.

If that's a 19" monitor, then everything together is probably worth $150. People undervalue working CRTs, that alone is probably worth $100. However it looks like the chassis in that monitor needs some work. I would ask the seller to take some nice pics of the chassis and then post it on tech support sections of arcade forums to get people's advice about it. It might just need new capacitors.

If it's a 13" monitor, pass.

I'm from Milwaukee too, also have been shopping for a Neo Geo. I just got a 4 slot a few weeks ago. Anyways, I have seen that cab show up for the last year so it's not moving very fast.

I am not sure if Superauctions is still in existance, but they just ran an arcade auction at the State Fair in November. They usually hit Milwaukee in November. Several Tekken 3 cabs went for $100, with nice monitors. It might be worthwhile to wait to see if they run another auction, and if they do buy a cab like that and convert it a Neo Geo.

I haven't went to go try it out, I'm just going to get a Tekken 2 Cabinet with no hardware at all just the cabinet for $75, I've decided to just make a MAME I've got plenty PC parts laying about.

However, I was wondering whats the mounting like on a Tekken 2 cabinet for sanwa joysticks. I'll be checking out the cabinet this saturday at Noon, the guy I'm buying it from has a SUPERB house, mini mansion so I hope the condition of the cabinet is nice anything to look for on old cabinets? Bad Hinges? Cracked Wood?

By no hardware does that mean no monitor or joysticks and buttons? What about the JAMMA harness is it still there? If all of this stuff is missing I would personally pass on that and just build from scratch.

You'll need to get a longer shaft (uh...thats what she said):

But the JLW series of sticks should match up with the US mounting holes.
