I am a volunteer in a charity/goodwill shop.
I arrive at the shop before it opens it's doors to the public and always have a look to see if anything retro has been donated.
I always wait for the items to be priced and put out in the shop before I buy them.

During the course of the morning yesterday another volunteer informed me that the manager had instructed a worker to throw away an Atari 2600 junior with about 40 carts :o . He said "nobodys going to buy that old rubbish".

At the earliest oppurtunity, my short lunch break, I waded into the rubbish pile at the rear of the wharehouse.

Having seen that our drivers had already cleared one load of rubbish earlier I wasn't holding out much hope of finding anything.

Jackpot.... :D

The console still had it's plastic protective cover over the logo :o .
Couldn't find the other carts, guess they went with the first load that was cleared :( .

Maybe report that manager, no need to destroying great merchandise. Goodwill places items for sale online, that boxed console should have been placed there with all the games.

Good for you snagging it. :D

EDIT
Check Your Atlantis Cart!
Though unlikely, maybe a contest winner cart? The normal Atlantis cart is black plastic with the traditional Imagic wedge at the end. The winner carts have a simple sticker printout on the box and a black wedge cart. But maybe a chance yours might be a coded Atlantis 2. Play the game, note the score font on the screen.

Thanks CRTGAMER 8)

Although being aware of the rarity of Atlantis 2, I previously only checked the cart sticker and didn't know about the slight differences in the two games.

I can now confirm, using the score font, that it's Atlantis and not Atlantis 2. :)

Pawn Shop

Castlevania : Lords of Shadow (PS3)(CIB) - $12
Wii Sports Resorts (CIB) with loose Wii Sports - $15

I really don't know if I will play Castlevania, but for $12 and CIB and mint like always from the pawn I couldn't walk away.

The sticker would be on the cardboard package, thats why any original wedge cart might be a rare Atlantis II cart. Maybe even some odd labeled ones might have slipped out. Oh well, perhaps you have a rare cart because of the plain white label.

The black wedge carts are more common, Atari Age gave the plain blue labeled cart a rarity rating of four. However, yours is a white label and not listed, even though it has the same 1982 date like the blue label version.

I really dislike my goodwill. They put every single game and system they get, up for auction at the store. When I went a few days ago there were literally 8 different consoles and games up for their in store auction. Stuff like: a DS, GBA, PS2 + games, X-box + games, Nintendo + games, SNES games, Gamecube + games, two Wiis. So much stuff and I can't buy anything until a auction!

There are so many that I am actually going to stop by and bid this time. Maybe I will get lucky who knows.

Made a stop at the thrift store and found a Pokédex. Not a big Pokémon fan, but at $1 I had to buy it. Surprised this thing talks back (loud) and looks like it was hardly used. Also picked up a cool vintage Radio Shack 2 Player Baseball game for another $1.
