For me, what makes the Saturn so special (besides the obvious great games) is that you can't play a Saturn game anywhere else! A PS1/2 game can fire up on a PS3, N64 games are available on Wii's virtual console; whereas a SEGA Saturn game can't be played on any modern system. That to me makes a SEGA Saturn special, overrated I think not.

All the more reason for Sega to make a Dreamcast II.

I don't think it's fair to say the other systems had better libraries. PS1 and N64 both may have had better libraries from a very general sort of perspective. However, when it came to arcade-style action, the Saturn had both of its competitors beat hands-down. If you're a gamer looking for some adrenaline from your games, the PSX and N64 libraries start to look a bit boring in comparison.

I think we can kill this thread. The answer is no.

It is up for debate if its better than PSX, but to say over-rated, I think thats been pretty well quashed.

I don't ever see it mentioned but the saturn has the best home version of pengo. It's on the japan only Sega Ages Vol. 1.

Maybe I'm the only guy who likes Pengo. Need to get that collection soon. Love that game.

i haven't played a lot of the "must have" games, but what i have played has kind of sucked. i am a total domestic kind of guy, and it seems much of the "must have" games are RPGs.

and considering many of the platformers suck and there are only 2 domestic shmups, i would call the saturn overrated.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Hmm. Except that it isn't being overrated in that case. The system is only rated highly by hardcore arcade gamers and importers, who are going by criteria totally alien to yours. The general public didn't think highly of the Saturn at all, so they rated it about the same as you. Hence, not overrated in any way.
