The only console ports ever of Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga (How was this not on your list Soldier Blue? :P ) and Batsugun are reasons alone to get the console.

X-men vs SF still blows me away.

The best version of Soukyugurentai is also a huge plus.

And while the ps1 may have a superior port of Donpachi, I personally consider the Saturn port of Dodonpachi to be the best (although some will disagree)

The Saturn is actually very underrated. I absolutely love it. It may even be my favorite system.

And in case no one mentioned these fucking excellent games yet:

Shining the Holy Ark
Shining Force III

When I was growing up, I was obsessed with the Saturn. To be honest, I was Sega mad and just about the only "Sega kid" around at my school at the time. I don't know why I was, to be honest. Kids are fickle, and everyone here loved the Playstation and later the N64. The Mega Drive (Genesis) was huge, yes, but the Saturn was a major flop and I didn't know anyone, bar a friend of my brother's (where I used to play the Saturn a tonne), who had one. So God knows why I became so obsessed with it. I remember I used to look in the shops at the Saturn games, and would read all about the games like Virtua Fighter games, Guardian Heroes (I actually thought this was a sequel to Gunstar Heroes at the time), NiGHTS into Dreams and Panzer Dragoon etc. I really wanted one, but my parents didn't want to buy me it, or any consoles to be honest. I was lucky that they bought me and my brother a Mega Drive to be honest.

Then came the pre-hype for the Dreamcast, which I was following even in its early Blackbelt/Katana etc days. When the console was first announced, I was so hyped, I said to my parents that I would save up the money myself this time and buy it. And that's what I did. But following from buying a Dreamcast, I realized I had the money spare to go back and buy a cheap second hand Saturn and loads of games, since they were all being sold off cheap in stores.

Although my Saturn collection isn't huge (and I really regret selling some of my games later to fund buying my Gamecube games), I'm glad I did, as it's a great system and it's nice to have got some bargains considering the price of Saturn games now... I just regret not picking up more, like that copy of Saturn Bomberman I saw for £5 once, dammit. Hell, I even regret not picking up a mint copy of Shining the Holy Ark for £20. I looked at Ebay prices on that game just yesterday, and Jesus Christ, I knew it was relatively expensive/rare, but had no idea it sold for that much these days. It's mad how much the prices of Saturn games have gone up in the last 3 years, let alone 10 years ago when I first picked mine up.

On topic though, like some have said, in many respects the console is underrated for obvious reasons. Is it overrated by fans and retro enthusiasts? I really don't know to be honest. I'm hesitant to say no... The thing is, like others have said, the ownership of Saturn for many is absolutely necessary, due to the huge number of unique and original exclusives that have never made it onto any other consoles. The controller is amazing as well, and the sheer number of unique games, arcade perfect ports, SHMUPs, 2D fighters and amazing imports make it a fantastic console, with its own merits. Is it as good as the Mega Drive (Genesis) or Dreamcast (or even Master System if you're into that)? I couldn't answer that personally, but it sure as hell has its own set of awesome games that you won't find on the other systems, and for these reasons it is deserving of its praise. Especially after the huge onslaught of crap that was flung at it by both gamers and critics alike back in the 90's.
Own: Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, Xbox 360

It's becoming an expensive console to collect for though. :?
After sleeping on it. I think the system may be a bit overrated in a lot of communities, I love 2D games, but I'm not the worlds largest fighting game fan and the system costs a ton to get all the goodies for. That's not to say it isn't one of the best consoles ever, and for a long time it was a personal favorite of mine. It's underrated in the general gaming populous yes, but a lot of retro gamers gush over it a little too much.

I think the Genesis is starting to become my favorite console. It's inexpensive and there are a LOT of really awesome and quirky Sega games. I guess if you're a fighter and SHMUP fan though, the Saturn is a must own in your library.

That's changing now.

Hopefully this brings the prices down for Radiant Silvergun on Ebay. I still don't have that game.

I hate to say it but I'll be getting the XBLA version. I really don't feel like paying out the ass for the game then an action replay.

It will most likely bring the price of the real game down though, so you may be in luck Inazuma.

Um, are we loving the Saturn or hating it here?

I know my crew loved the Saturn because what the hell did Sony know about gaming? All they've done prior was a sound chip for the SNES and worked on a CD-ROM drive w/ Nintendo...our hate of Sony made us passionate about Sega. N64 never had any love from me, I was a SNES hater from day one (Turbo owner) plus it was a couple years late to the party. I think only until the release of FF7 did the PS get some affection (again, in my group of friends)

It's probably all personal opinion.

-Saturn had the better 2D Capcom/SNK fighter ports over PS1 (fact)
-Controller had 6 on the face (fact) D-pad was godlike (majority opinion)
-Sega exclusives only on Saturn (for those that cared, I never liked V.fighter)
-PS1 broke down more often (shall I say 10-1 over SS?)
-Larger Japanese support, if you imported (like Turbo/PCE)

Yes, very, then again maybe im just biased, because i dont know a single person in real life who owns one or had when at launch.
