I've noticed local prices rise considerably in the past few years. A local place near here used to sell ALL snes games $6-7 each, now he prices them individually, and usually way too high.Jmustang1968 wrote: Though, due to Storage Wars and the Pickers show, people are starting to realize what they have.

I hope more of the SDF comes out to play. Were small in numbers, but lethal. Think of us as akin to the Mossad.

The saturns greatness lies in the imports. The library is fantastic and has a lot of releases that only made it to the ps1 in the us, some in better quality. The classic example is xmen vs street fighter, my more recent addiction

Phew, thank gosh. My mistake, then. It'd be criminal for a Sega Saturn thread to get to 4 pages with no one mentioning NiGHTS.Soldier Blue wrote:I said that alreadyFlake wrote:Oh and because no one else has said it.

I remember first reading about NiGHTS in an old EGM back in the day. I didn't have a Saturn and honestly didn't know much about it. This was, of course, back when the internets weren't so informative.
Something about NiGHTS stuck with me, even though I'd never even seen the game except for the screen shots in that magazine. The art style, the gameplay the article described, and the quirky things you could do with the Saturn's internal clock just struck me as being so amazingly cool.
Fast forward 10 years. A friend of mine buys me a Sega Saturn out of the blue. And then I had to figure out what to do with the damn thing. So I buy a NiGHTS demo on the cheap - and I honestly felt like it was the 90's all over again. I hadn't felt anything so akin to wonder when playing a game since I was a teenager. I've had my Saturn for a couple of years now and I still get that insanely nostalgic feeling when I pop NiGHTS in, especially if I've had a bad day at work.
The only thing I ever found on the Playstation that makes me feel that way was the original Mega Man Legends.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Is the Sega Saturn overrated?
NiGHTS into Dreams and the three Panzer Dragoon games were pretty much life-changing experiences in the form of video games for me.
The Saturn will always occupy a special place in my heart because of that. I was also discovering anime at the same time and the fact that the Saturn was/is easy to import for adds an exotic flavor to my collection that isn't mirrored on any other system. I also have generally preferred playing 2D games to 3D, which gives the Saturn a fantastic library of potential games that I'm still happy to buy.
When I want an arcade-quality shoot'em-up or ridiculous 2D fighter, such titles are available for the Saturn. And while many games are pretty pricey, there are still plenty of classics that can be found on the cheap.
I've never owned an N64 and doubt I will anytime soon. The PS1 has some great titles, but they don't feel as SPECIAL as Saturn games. The Saturn is relatively obscure and it seems like for most folks in their 20s, it's just a vague memory of "some other Sega system." That obscurity makes my collection feel more unique than the average joe's.
I admit that "obscurity" is a petty reason for liking a console, but it's still a reason!
It could be argued that *I* overrate the Saturn in loving it as much as I do, but most non-hardcore gamers are barely aware that it exists. So I guess it depends on how you define overrated?

Re: Is the Sega Saturn overrated?
I love the Sega Saturn, and although I've been playing a lot more of my Genesis as of late, it's still my favorite system.
It's becoming an expensive console to collect for though.
