Slightly off topic, but someone is doing an anime based on the popular Supernatural tv show. I've never heard of an american tv show being turned into an anime before

Perhaps, but I have heard of American things getting Japanese anime based on them. Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z, SiN and T.A.T.u. Paragate (well, based on Russian stuff, I guess) come to mind.

Which, yeah, I guess SiN is worth mentioning, considering that was a PC game. Never watched the anime, though.

I've also seen animated films in stores based on Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. Dunno if they are considered anime, though - I wasn't interested enough in either of them to do more than recognize them at retail.

Dante's Inferno was adequate given it's just a gory actiony romp. I was actually quite disappointed that this one was based off the game, because the first time I saw the headline "Dante's Inferno Anime" I was overjoyed, foolishly thinking it was related to the actual Dante's Inferno.

Well, that is the actual Dante's Inferno, right? I mean, what else could you be talking about? =P

I 'loved' working at GameStop went people would look at promos for Dante's Inferno, and mumble something along the lines of "Dante? From Devil May Cry?" or something equally stupid. It took every fiber of my being to not call them out for being an uncultured swine.

Regrettably, I've encountered a few people like that myself. Along those lines, almost nobody I know was actually aware that Scott Pilgrim was a series of graphic novels, they all just thought it was a random movie out of left field.

Here's a list I have made and update regularly (btw, it needs a little update in order to add anime like Persona 4):

The latest anime based on videogame I have watched is Sonic the Hedgehog movie and it was surprisingly good.

Some good ones and plenty of bad ones: Tekken, Battle Arena Toshinden, Final Fantasy Legends...

Apparently, The Epic of Zektbach, the series of Beatmania songs, got some OVAs some time ago. I wonder if they are any good, I haven't seen them.
