Anthony817 is right about everything mentioned in his entry regarding De La Jet Set Radio. It is the most complete version available. It's also the one of the most elusive DC imports as it was only sold thru segas D-Direct service.

You won't get a better version of that game anywhere else if you tried, Don't get the Ntsc-U or PAL versions, they are absolutely subpar to this Japan only release.

Wait, are you absolutely sure, Ant? I was under the impression that the original Japanese version was buggier and had less content than the western releases, and De La Jet Set Radio was essentially a re-packed version of the western releases to the Japanese audience. Sort of like Sonic Adventure International. Can you give me documentation that De La's control scheme works differently than the NTSC-U Jet Grind Radio?

Here is what the description on the game page says in the link I posted for it, just going by what it said.

After the public reported several bugs in the original Japanese version of Jet Set Radio, Sega decided to re-release it under the name of De La Jet Set Radio ("Deluxe" Jet Set Radio). This version was only sold in Japan via Dreamcast Direct (later renamed Sega Direct) making it one of the more rare Dreamcast titles available. The gameplay in this version was easier to pick up and included the added music from the European and US versions, including the two levels only included in these two versions. The text featured in the game is localized in the main language of your Dreamcast, unlike the original Japanese version, which means that if your Dreamcast system is set to English language, the text in the game will be in English. The same goes for Japanese, German, French and Spanish. However, the voices remain Japanese

Thank you, I just downloaded it like 2 weeks ago, and it really does controll much better than the Western releases. I am just glad somebody told me about it or I would have never touched it as I was under the impression it was just a regular version in Japanese, oh how glad I was when I finally played this version!

so what do I want to use for an import boot disc, BTW?

Keep in mind, the boot disc is only needed for original GDR's. All backups have been edited to be region free, so all you really have to do is burn a selfbooting version of the game and play it.

If you're still wondering, I'd advise that the DC-X is the best import boot disc available for the system. That's the only one that I have used that has had no problems with any import game I own.

I prefer the Innovation disc to the DC-X when I had them both, before getting a chipped and DC-J system. Plus it is about 1/2 the price of the DC-X.

And i'm going to climb up on my high-horse for a second. If you call a game a back up, then this means you have the game itself, no? They really should be called burns in most cases, since from most posts I read - people burn a game to try it out, or they burn a game because they simply can't afford the legit copy. A back-up implies you have a backup for an original game you own, and said original no longer plays.

You are in for a treat. Game is so fucking hard. I love that they added a close-range attack and made the coins chain-able. Easily stands up there with some of the best.

I'm not sure if this works on both versions, as I have the us one, but if I hold start when booting the game up, it takes me to a DIP switch/debug mode, which will let you change the language, as well as give you a level select, which is pretty useful to practice later stages

Ha ha, I think that every time I see that game, and then for some reason I forget it exists again. Really need to pick up that and another agetek stick.
