It is functionally similar to having an AR in a Saturn as far as the save memory goes. You can't save directly to it, but you can copy save information from the Duo/CD unit save memory to free up space and keep it safe if the system is going to be unhooked for an extended period.theclaw wrote:I don't know much about the Tennokoe Bank Card. Re: Where do you buy your PCE/TG16 games?
Well, in my case, the usual advice on what PCE hardware to get doesn't apply. I got lucky and scored a good deal.
I already have a TG16, TGCD, spare TGCD (in the event of a malfunction), compatible TurboTap, and all the TurboPads, TurboSticks, and extension cords that my "renegade gameport" could possibly want, as well as a North American Super System 3.0 card. I'm pretty much set.
So I fall in that minority of PCE gamers who actually has a viable financial reason to look into HuCard converters. Especially since I'm running out of space ATM.
A good problem to have, if there is such a thing.
So I greatly appreciate the feedback I've gotten from all of you so far. Please keep it coming, the more the merrier! While I'm no total stranger to the PCE scene, this is my first chance to really *wallow* in it... and I really want to!
And feel free to rant as much as you want about whatever you know about HuCard converters. What knowledge there is on the subject seems scarce enough as it is.

HuCard converters when they work properly, are quite self explanatory how to use. Japanese games don't perform that system check most US ones do. So it's easier to make a TG16 run PCE games.

Man, importing PC Engine Duo-R was pretty unkind for my wallet, especially as we have quite high tax rate for these things. Games are easy and affordable to fish on Ebay, though. I can't find many expensive games, aside from Rondo of Blood for example, even shmups are very affordable. Japan importers have really high quality standards as well.

High tax rate for import shopping? Europe somewhere?Korpi wrote:Man, importing PC Engine Duo-R was pretty unkind for my wallet, especially as we have quite high tax rate for these things. Anyway, you will find as you get deeper into the consoles library that there are a fair number of expensive shooters, especially if you go for the limited production/prize varieties (ask Breetai, he knows a ton more on the PCE).
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Re: Where do you buy your PCE/TG16 games?
Yeah, Northern Europe. Not for games though, as they don't usually reach the minimum cost to be taxed.
I've noticed some special versions and Darius Alpha, Sapphire and so on, but in general PC Engine games seem to be very affordable CIB. I feel Mega Drive has more those good games, that go past 100$ or so mark and shmups are often at least bit more expensive, not to even mention SNES. I may be wrong though, I like to keep the PC Engine library mysterious and not read up too much, so fun to discover wacky games by myself.
I've been playing Yōkai Dōchūki, loving it for some reason. I like that there was buddha statue, angels and demons at first boss, seems somewhat controversial mix. I have also Chō Aniki coming, I guess that speaks for itself.

Shit, you are right. I was totally mixed up when I wrote that. So... hmmm, swapping the cord inside? Would that work? Hudson made a pretty good Famicom controller with turbo switches that plugs into the expansion port. It feels and looks about the same as the original ones.theclaw wrote:Where did you find or hear about expansion port dogbones? That's news to me. Awesome as it'd be for many Famicom owners.Breetai wrote:What's the point of that? You can literally just plug a JP dogbone into the expansion port on any Famicom model. I wonder if you can swap the cord on a JP dogbone for a regular NES controller cord?theclaw wrote:...adapters to use NES controllers on Famicom...
AV Famicom included in the box two JP dogbones that were decidedly NOT compatible with an original Famicom, due to their NES connector.
Damn, I am really sorry I mislead you there! I totally new better.

Re: Where do you buy your PCE/TG16 games?
I think most NES normal controllers (not Zapper or some other weird types) should be compatible with the Famicom board connectors or expansion port. If they'd plug in... But finding a ready made adapter is VERY scarce if any. You'll either need one custom made, or mod the controllers. Presumably not enough Famicom and Twin Famicom owners who care about Western stuff.Breetai wrote:

BlueBMW and theSteve over on PCEFX have been working on a region chip:

Another option, not too expensive, but some heavy mod work:
