I live in the middle of nowhere, and on the web I have a hard time finding any place that has a wide selection without overinflated prices.
And why are card converters for imports so rare and expensive? They're simple enough. I guess I'll have to get a Japanese console.
I'm really excited about exploring more of the PCE software world. "The Big E" is handy, but just isn't the same.
Where do you buy your PCE/TG16 games?

Re: Where do you buy your PCE/TG16 games?
There are a couple of local stores here that sell them. Otherwise eBay is good for PC Engine stuff and even TurboGrafx stuff (watch out for price gougers). Otherwise I buy from members I know on forums I go to.

TG16 card converters are among numerous odd items like Dreamcast modchips, adapters to use NES controllers on Famicom, etc, that lack enough interest to get mass produced cheaply.

What's the point of that? You can literally just plug a JP dogbone into the expansion port on any Famicom model. (edit.... no you can't!)theclaw wrote:...adapters to use NES controllers on Famicom...

Where did you find or hear about expansion port dogbones? That's news to me. Awesome as it'd be for many Famicom owners.Breetai wrote:What's the point of that? AV Famicom included in the box two JP dogbones that were decidedly NOT compatible with an original Famicom, due to their NES connector.

I live close enough to go to that store. They're pretty cool, but the weird thing is if you do an order for pickup, they don't actually gather your items together until you get there, which really defeats the point.Stark wrote:This place isn't terrible: http://www.estarland.com/index.asp?page ... latform=59

PCEngineFX.com is a great place to start. Knowledge and a few FS: to be had.ensleepent wrote:I live in the middle of nowhere, and on the web I have a hard time finding any place that has a wide selection without overinflated prices.

I have to plug Mad-gear (on ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/Mad-Gear-Import-Video-Games) but you hit at the wrong time since he is gonna be at cons for the next two months and paused his store front for bit. If your not able to travel for retro game cons, you're kinda stuck.
I hear you on the converters, there is the "chopsado" as another alternative. If you have a Duo or CD, you'd only need a PCE Core just to play the import Hu's. You can also get your system mod'd to play imports but it's getting close to the cost of a Kisado, WH-301 or diving board.

I've heard of the chopsado, but those don't seem too common or budget-minded either, unless I'm missing something (please tell me I am!).
Whether I get Japanese hardware or not, there's still no way to use the lovely Tennokoe Bank Card on a North American Turbo without a converter. That's gotta be a nice item...

I don't know much about the Tennokoe Bank Card. Maybe I'll look into it, seems cheap enough.
Yeah there really is near zero reason from a practical standpoint to own a full-upgraded setup (Super CD + RGB + JPN hucard mod) with the US TG16 unit at its base, unless one insists on having its larger controller plug incompatible with the greater variety of Japanese pads. A similarly modded Duo/R/RX will offer an identical game library and look much nicer on the exterior.
