You all win. (I'm finally getting a Dreamcast)
Re: You all win. (I'm finally getting a Dreamcast)
I'm pretty new here but i'd like to congratulate Noise for jumpin onto the DC scene. I am also one of the few that find the DC controller comfortable to use specifically the Dpad. Even with all the controller hate, that's very little reason not to like the system especially when there are wonderful alternative to controls like Agetec amazing arcade stick, ASCII fightpad, Controller converters for PS and Saturn pads
Re: You all win. (I'm finally getting a Dreamcast)
I'd get a Nexus Memory Card so you can transfer your saves to your computer (need to make sure you have an older computer with a 25-pin serial port, similar to what you would have plugged an old printer into, I believe). Get one of those and a VMU, and you won't ever need to worry about running out of space.
I'm not a big fan of the DC light guns (I wish they would have just reused the Saturn guns), and I think HotD2 is the only game you'd bother playing with them. With that being said, who doesn't love playing a light gun game with zombies?
Grab some keyboards if you can. I missed out on an opportunity before I knew about Typing of the Dead, and I'm still on the lookout. Make sure to grab two so you can play TotD multiplayer.
I've never liked the "vibrate" function on controllers, so I won't echo the other recommendations. However, I'm sure you will know if you like them or not, as they aren't original by any means.
Obviously you will want to buy four controllers. I'm an official/first party controller guy myself, so I won't recommend anything but (arcade sticks are another matter, and I'm still on the lookout).
Checking the revision is super easy. Simply turn the DC upside-down and read the number that is circled. Odds are you have revision 1.
As far as games go, I'll let you decide. Reading the articles here on Racketboy you won't miss any of the gems. Past that it's just up to personal preference. The RPG selection is pretty light (but ask if you have any questions about them), but if you're into more arcade-y games, you won't find such a shortage.
Oh, and have fun.

Every once in a while I'll play a Dreamcast game but it's not a console that I really ever get sucked in too.
Plus the controller is shit. Which is more strange than anything considering Sega's track record of awesome controller making.

You forget the first versions of the Master System (side cord) and Saturn (cheap feeling, bad shoulder buttons and d-pad) controllers.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Every once in a while I'll play a Dreamcast game but it's not a console that I really ever get sucked in too.

I would join. I tend to not like any of the first party Nintendo games past the SNES period, so I'm definitely eligible.BoringSupreez wrote:I feel sorry for you. There's a lot more use to those light guns on then just HotD2. "Confidential Mission" is another phenomenal (and exclusive) light gun game is so much fun to play with friends. "Virtual Cop 2" on "Sega Smash Pack" is another great (and very cheap) fun light gun game as well."I'm not a big fan of the DC light guns (I wish they would have just reused the Saturn guns), and I think HotD2 is the only game you'd bother playing with them. I did forget the first version of the Master System but I did NOT forget the USA Saturn controller, and it's leagues better than the Dreamcast controller. I'll admit it's not great, but at least it doesn't give me cramps.BoringSupreez wrote:You forget the first versions of the Master System (side cord) and Saturn (cheap feeling, bad shoulder buttons and d-pad) controllers.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Every once in a while I'll play a Dreamcast game but it's not a console that I really ever get sucked in too.

There are 2 saturn controllers (3 if you count the 3d one)
one of them has cheap shoulders, but the other is fantastic.

But really, so what if we don't like Mario 64. Shmups were the first big genre and Space Invaders created a coin shortage in Japan so anyone who doesn't like shmups is not a real gamer.

It's still sort of weird whenever noiseredux decides to try out a new console. He's just been the Game Boy guy for so long that it seems a bit like catching Colonel Sanders eating at Burger King.
So Noise, what other systems are on your radar? It would be cool to see Neo Geo reviews on your blog...
