I feel like I'll mostly only get exclusives on DC and get multi-console games on Sony's.

BUT can you explain to me the deal on VGA lightguns? I have an Acer LED monitor. Will I be able to play lightgun games on the DC? Which lightgun do I need? Do all games work with it? Etc?

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Excellent question! What about N64? Btw, I hate Mario 64 as well
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

NES: NesterDC http://nesterdc.emulation64.com/

DreamSNES: SNES (can be laggy, especially in menus) http://mc.pp.se/dc/dreamsnes/

SMS: SMS Plus http://www.pascalorama.com/article.php?news=19&cat=8

GB: GNUBoy: GB It's been a looong time since I've used it. It's a GB emulator, so I'm guessing stability isn't a huge issue. http://pqrs.org/dreamcast/software/dcgnuboy/

I can vouch for NesterDC, one of the best emulators I've ever used. I know people had the Dreamcast D-Pad but I think it works great with NES games.

Dreamcast Lightguns work in VGA, but only VGA CRTs. Really, take a look at REZ, there is also a development copy called KProject with different music. The controller literally shakes out of your hand beating to the vibes.

It's about damn time, noise! ;) You are sure to find a lot of fun games on the system. Despite my love for the Gamecube, the Damcast is still my favorite system. Make sure you got a model 0 or model 1 Dreamcast, so you can play some of the newer indie games, homebrew, etc. Also, you might want to consider trying out some of the rarer games like Rez (which you really, REALLY should play!) or many of the system's SHMUPs on a backup disc first, because you may be waiting a while to find a cheap legitimate copy.

Also, I think I may be in the minority saying this, but I adore the Dreamcast's controller. It has so much personality, fits great in my hands, and the analog stick and triggers are as smooth as butter. Not to mention the ingenious and underrated VMU!

I have no idea what model #, but can't I just burn a boot disc if I need to?

I actually have two dreamcasts. One on my Plasma for VGA with all the games, and one on my CRT with s-video for Light guns.

I don't believe so. There is a way to burn games that all dreamcasts will play but its not well documented, and much harder than the traditional way. Most people give up and just get a DC that will play burns the traditional way, since they're so cheap.

Yeah, I like the controller too. Triggers > regular shoulder buttons. And dat VMU! The concept of having a screen in the controller that displays stuff not shown on the TV is great. The d-pad can be really bad when it gets worn out, though.
