Hurricane Irene
Re: Hurricane Irene
I cleaned the front yard earlier. I picked up all the big branches by hand, then used a combination of a leaf blower and a rake to get the rest into piles. Picked those piles up by hand. Then I mowed the lawn to get the rest of the crap up. Now my backyard is bigger than my front yard, and there was much more debris all around. I didn't feel like doing all that again (mostly the bending over part) so I just picked up the bigger branches. The rest of the crap, I just mowed over.
Probably wasn't the smartest choice, but I only have one small cut on my leg!

Re: Hurricane Irene
I didn't lose power at all surprisingly but my parents did. I guess it's hit or miss all over the LI. Luckily I'm on the 2nd floor of my apartment complex so I didn't have to worry too much about flooding but it seems wind was more of an issue in my area. I just noticed the usual shit that goes along w/ these storms: downed power lines/trees, traffic lights out, power loss in other areas, etc. As long as no one is killed or harmed is the most important thing honestly. Don't get me wrong, extreme damage to your home definitely is horrible and I can relate, but as long as you're alive is something to be thankfull for. I hope everyone from RB who was affected by this storm is ok all around.

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!
Re: Hurricane Irene
I just got back to my apartment in Brooklyn, and a section of the roof suffered major water damage, the floors got soaked, and the light fixture in the living room is filled with water. Sigh. :(
Re: Hurricane Irene
Power returned to my area back home and my family is safe. My mom had backup oxygen tanks for my dad just in case. We live mountain side so nothing of ours is damaged, but the county is hard at work building bridges.
Re: Hurricane Irene
Light water damage on the ground-floor ceilings most likely because the 2nd floor windows aren't sealed properly. Thankfully the wooden shack itself didn't get knocked down. And while I wait for the metro system to recover, the campus next door has reopened their doors for me to sit here and leech WiFi.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Re: Hurricane Irene
My area lost power and isn't scheduled to get it back until saturday or sunday according to the power company. Right now I am at a Panera, pretending to be a hipster so I can use their internet.
Re: Hurricane Irene
I found out today that there are areas still with out power around me. I guess my area was extremely lucky. The nearest gas station to my house is still out, and I heard some other areas around it are without power. I heard parts of Setauket are still without power, along with a few other locations I don't remember.
Re: Hurricane Irene
Back to work today.
The offices smell of mold. Strike that, they smell of mold and microwaved popcorn, which is even worse.
Can't complain, a three day weekend is just around the corner.

What does "pretending to be a hipster" entail?saturnfan wrote:My area lost power and isn't scheduled to get it back until saturday or sunday according to the power company. Right now I am at a Panera, pretending to be a hipster so I can use their internet.
