I hope everyone's okay. We know at least two people visiting family in New England from Florida, so I'm sure they're pretty pissed that that they left Florida and still ended up in a hurricane.

Considering our track record, Florida lucked out this time. Got some rain, but barely. I did head over to the east coast to check out the waves though. I said I'd post a video, so here it is. It's kinda long, so you can skim though if you like. And forgive the shaky camera. It was a bit crowded so I was forced to stand on a ledge to avoid getting wet

Had I known I owned a door that was worth near a thousand dollars, I would have sold that shit; especially since it didn't do its job during a storm. My regular doors did fine, but my storm door breaks during a storm? That's some ironic stuff.

I think it's safe to say I'll be out at least $1000 when it's all said and done, but if so I'll have one kick ass storm door.
I hope you don't get the same brand again if it didn't do its job the first time. Most storm doors go for around $250 with some getting up to $400+. I did see a couple models on Home Depot's website go for $900 because they look to be security doors.

So what exactly failed on your previous door in the storm?

Same for me, no real effect. We only lost power twice for a period of 1 minute each. Going into work this morning, I did see a couple of roads that are still closed due to a fallen tree. The tree removal companies will be very busy this week.

@biker. Looks like the latch and the screws that were in the door frame failed me. That and the hinges.

My office building is trashed. Big time. And for some reason, I didn't get the email stating that we wouldn't be working in office today, so I wasted two hours driving. Call me crazy, but I was looking forward to getting back to the office.

I hate having to fix doors. Like I said, my front storm door got a little messed up and doesn't close properly now. Not looking forward to messing with that. I do everything around my house. Electrical, plumbing, dry wall, carpeting, tiling, literally everything. Installing or fixing doors is DEFINITELY my least favorite thing to do. So good luck to us both in our storm door repairs! Hopefully I don't end up breaking mine out of frustration.

I didn't go into work yesterday when the hurricane hit, and I'm actually off today and tomorrow. It's unclear if I'm off on Wednesday. I called my boss but he dodged my call. Bastard.

I just spent a few hours cleaning up the front yard. Such a tremendous amount of branches, leaves and whatnot everywhere. I think my back yard is even worse, a lot more debris and larger branches.

Power only flickered, although we did lose internet. Lost an eBay auction because of it. Our area was relatively unaffected, although not but a few miles away did it start to look pretty beat up.

I haven't been out of my neighborhood yet, but my neighbor told me there's scattered power outages all around. A few traffic lights out and whatnot.

So it was improperly installed then?

You are a coconut. But hope work stuff is mostly a mess from trees and mostly things easily fixed.

I lost a screen door in a plain old thunderstorm a few weeks back. Apparently there were 60-70 mph winds overnight, woke up to find my screen door not just off its hinges but broken right in half! I guess the latch failed, so the door blew open and got pressed up against the railing breaking it. All that from straight line winds, I didn't even wake up for it.

My landlord replaced the door with one that has magnetic weather stripping. I can't even feel a draft during thunderstorms anymore. Woohoo!

Anyway, good to hear most of you got away without much damage.
