Sega Genesis? Low Tier!? Why!? щ(゚Д゚щ)

Not trying to debunk your list or anything, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I'm just curious as to the reasoning behind this.
I just don't hardly play the damn thing. It's a good system, it's got some good games and all, but it's library never came close to appealing to me the same way the Saturn or Dreamcast did.

I'm still glad I have it, but aside from the Treasure games and a few other oddball titles, there ain't much of a reason to keep collecting games for it or to keep it hooked up. And yes, I know that this is practically inviting some TL;DR list of games from some over-zealous fanboy, but hey: I'm aware of it's library. It just doesn't appeal to me.

I do at least think it's better than the Xbox, N64 and TG16.

Heh, fair enough. Quite honestly I feel the same in regards to the majority of the Genesis library not pertaining to my interests; it's just the ones that are there I'm a huge fan of (namely the Shining series, SoR, and Sonic games).

Favorite: SNES, no doubt. Legacy and actual current day playability make it legendary.

Least liked: CD-i. Just no good games, bad controller and at the time just too damn big of a machine. Even the 3D0 with it's lousy controller still had some pretty good games.

No, I'm saying that they have more to do with the Dreamcast than the Xbox because they were developed in opposition to the console rather than in harmony with it, but because of extenuating circumstances, they wound up on a different console than the one they were developed for. Microsoft helped drive Sega out of the console business at least partially by hijacking their ideas -- I don't thank them for having one of the many platforms that Sega tried to re-establish themselves on. Like I said, it's not like those games wouldn't have just as easily gone somewhere else if the Xbox didn't exist. I should remind you that Shenmue II and Panzer Dragoon Orta sold far below expectations on the Xbox, so it's not like they owe the console or its fanbase anything for hospitality.

How did Microsoft releasing a console 2 years after Sega already pulled out of the console biz force Sega out again?

Microsoft and Sega were big partners for the longest time. The Xbox was almost going to be backwards compatible with Dreamcast games.

It really sucks that it never happened.

That's why their controllers are so similar...

Favorite - Probably NES. Dont feel the need to defend that choice

Least - Xbox. Some of the features that appeal to people (xbox live, system link, hard drive) were/are irrelevant to my gaming habits so I never saw them all bonuses just stuff I had to pay for and wouldnt use. The controller is easily one of my least favorite of any system I've played, even after they reduced the size of it. I'm a collector as well as a gamer and the size of the system takes up a lot of shelf space. And most important the games. For having 700+ titles I find it quite interesting that I struggle to find appealing games on the system. It was extremely popluar in my area and the games are still plentiful around here in the second hand market yet its one of the smallest collections I've got because it just doenst have many interesting games. In all honesty I've found more games locally that I'll play on my 3DO and TG16 than the Xbox. I dust both of those systems off for play much more often.

Well, Sega's going all software happened the same year the xbox came out (2001) but there was still a 7 month gap, so your point stands.

You're right though, because aside from all the other factors one might usually cite for Sega's demise, in terms of competition the blame rests squarely on Sony and the PS2. The DC was already canned by the time the Xbox and GC came out.

Anyway, my list in the tier form, excluding handhelds:

God Tier:
Genesis/CD/32x

High Tier:
Dreamcast
Xbox
Xbox 360
Gamecube
Wii

Mid Tier:
Saturn
N64
Super Nintendo
Master System

Low Tier:
NES
PS1
PS2
PS3

With the exception of the God Tier, this list is always subject to change. I've explored very little of the Saturn and Master System libraries thus far, and they will probably get bumped up later on.

I also don't yet own a PC Engine of any sort, though a Duo is in my future. I'm pretty sure I'm going to love it.

I'm sure my low tier will piss some people off, to which I say, oh well. No hate, that's just how I feel about it. The NES was my first game system, so it isn't bias. As for Sony, again, no hate, I just generally don't care for any of the systems. 99 times out of 100, if a game is available on multiple systems, Playstation is the last place I look.
