Anyone else just see the streaker on the weather channel? Totally wasn't expecting to see schlong mere seconds after I turned on the hurricane coverage.

But yeah, overall IMO, NY subways aren't great. Especially when you're used to Tokyo.
Well I haven't ridden the Subway in New York. The only time I've spent there was in the airport on the way somewhere else. Ive ridden trains and subways in California, London, Tokyo, and Kyoto so I guess I've just seen better ones.

Anyway, stay dry people.

Yeah. Especially if you own one of those fancy electric toilets ;)

That reminds me, gotta make sure the batteries in my PSP and DS are charged!

Well, good luck to us all!

I'm fully anticipating losing power. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. I'll try and check in on a mobile phone if need be.
I'm also north of the LIE, but still at least 3 or 4 miles from the north shore. On a huge hill as well and my first floor apartment is actually about 10 feet over the ground.
Parts of the North Shore are being evacuated. I heard some one say that "they" said if you're within 5 minutes of the North Shore, be prepared for flooding or whatever. I'm a good 15 minutes from the North Shore. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, that's about all you can do, I guess.

Long Island Expressway. It runs East and West on Long Island.
D.D.D. wrote:Yeah first-hand pics would be cool, when you have electricity. ;)
I'm charging all my batteries right now. If I remember, I'll take some pics and maybe some videos of Irene as she rips through here.

Generally, if the toilet is in the basement or somewhere below the drain line it will need an electric motor to flush (because it wont have gravity on its side so it'll have to pump water up). If you're toilet needs electricity to flush, something connected to the toilet will have to be plugged into an electrical socket. So if you don't have that, you can flush it without electricity.

All toilets need water to flush them though, that's just the way they work.

Getting rain in spurts. Heavy for a minute or two here and there. Winds are starting, but nothing strong yet. It's suppose to hit tomorrow morning.
