Wanting to buy a turbografx, need some pointers please!

I snagged a TG16 off of craiglist last night for $15, it was in decent condition buy missing the AC adapter. The seller told me that he has been using an NES AC adapter for years to power it. Had it been much more I would have walked away right then. It does work with a Genny model 1 adapter, but I'm wondering was sort of damage he caused by using an NES power supply. I'm thinking just the power regulator, so I was going to go in there and change that just to be safe. Do you think he could have messed up anything else?

Also is there an s-video mod for it?

I know what you mean. I returned a Super Famicom because it had a PC Engine AC adapter bundled with it. I was worried so I returned it.

As long as it's 10v(10.5?) and 1amp(or more), and the tip polarity is right, you're good(and of course it fits!). 3rd party replacement can be had:

As for S-vid, you can make a sync separator it with a LM1881, but all the cool kids RGB/SCART mod their Duo's Personally, comp is perfectly fine. Head over to PCEngineFX for other opinions. I want to say that the Turbo does not give to chrom/lum straight out...but I could be wrong.

Browse the games on http://www.pcengine.co.uk/ You'll see that a lot of the shmups look great and are often rated well.

Hm. A bit of work, but I see quite a few more titles. (I didn't know Faceball hit the PCE?) The site seems rather new, but it doesn't have a genre filter, and I can't be sure of a game's exclusivity or compare with how they play on other consoles. Some cross-checking with GameFAQs and MobyGames is required. (So awesome titles like "Forgotten Words", which also appears on the Megadrive, need a closer look.)

Hudson really put a lot of solid games on their console. "xx of Thunder" is amazing, and the "Soldier Blade / Final Soldier" games look godly. Even "Thunder Blade" looks promising. Though not Hudson, "SDF Macross 2036" caught my eye as well.

ANYTHING named Macross should catch your eye.

The four PCE Soldier games (including Blazing Lasers/Gunhed) are all amazing. I like Final Soldier the best, but most people seem to go for Soldier Blade. Of course, all four are amazing.

Gate of Thunder is incredible. Lords/Winds of Thunder is jaw dropping. The port of Thunder Blade isn't bad at all. It is quite fluid, actually, and very much worth picking up a copy.

In general, if a shooter is on multiple systems, it will feature larger sprites on the PCE, have more colours, and often plays smoother (then SNES games). The Genesis and SNES versions usually have much better parallax scrolling.

Super Grafx: $150-250
CD-ROM2 w/IFU and System 3.0 card: $150-225
Super CD-ROM2: $150-225
PC Engine Duo/Duo-R/Duo-RX: $150-250
PC Engine Express: $75-250 (depends on the sound capacitors)
PC Engine LT: $400+

I tried to give the low end (good price, go for it!) and highest end I consider reasonable for something in great condition. Of course these can still fluctuate.

edit: updated the prices. They... went up, especially for the Super CD-ROM2 add-on.

You CAN use the original Japanese CD-unit on a US Turbo CD docking unit (replacing a broken black US CD-unit for a working Japanese white one), as they are more common to find than the US one.

Sorry for the thread resurrection but this would answer my question without the need for a another thread.

So are we saying here that the US and Japanese CD units are interchangeable? That would be awesome for me if that were the case.
I mean you could work a US CD unit off of the PC Engine briefcase setup, and a Japanese CD unit with the US docking unit on a TG16?
