Voice Chat for Racketboy!!
Re: Voice Chat for Racketboy!!
Voice chat would never take off here, it's just too old hat for the internet IMO.

Why not just create a skype group? A lot of us have it already and it is very easy to use.
Re: Voice Chat for Racketboy!!
What would be awesome is some sort of chat where you could type a message, and it would stay up for a while, and then other people could read it at any time of the day and reply to it. Then other people could look at the reply and add something to it. I think something like that could be really popular.

I understand that. What I was getting at is that when you go into the chatroom now, all you see is the required moderators (who are usually AFK), and maybe one other person.BoringSupreez wrote:Voice chats work better with really large communities that have a lot of time on their hands. Not so well with places like Racketboy, which has only a few hundred regular users, most of whom are over 18 and have jobs and/or college to attend.puke_face wrote:It's hard enough to get people here in the regular chatroom, let alone voice chat. I doubt it takes off, honestly.

A lot of people would say the same about forums....BRIK wrote:Voice chat would never take off here, it's just too old hat for the internet IMO.

Ventrillo seems to be the most used medium, and is pretty much all i would ever use for voice chatting, especially after raiding in WoW for 5 years.

TeamSpeak 3 (TS3) is way better than Vent. I've been using it since launch and before then I was using TS2. I've used Vent and TS2 before, using both around the same time and Vent had the edge but since TS3 came out, Vent is no longer the best in my experience. TS3 has voice chat of course, a text box for those who want to type, the ability to upload files to the server or in a directory on the computer that's hosting it (if the user is given permission by the admin), the ability to have an avatar, and a couple other neat features in which the admin can use to personalize the server. I use it all the time and can't stand IM anymore, especially when playing online games. Renting a server will cost money but there's a procedure to host it off of your computer for free by downloading the server (as opposed to the client which would be for users not hosting a server).
I pitched this idea before to Sega-16 in addition to using it to further pursue a Sega-16 podcast series. It never took off and I was getting criticism that was more negative than constructive. I imagine the same goes for here. I would assume not many people play PC games online retro games so IRC would probably be the more viable and popular choice. I play retro games based off consoles more than PC games but I play the old PC games online, like Starcraft, C&C95, and sometimes old FPS's alot
, via TS3 with online friends as well.
@Jrecee: TS3 and I'm pretty sure Vent does that. I almost didn't take that question seriously. On several occasions, I would log in to TS3 a day after and the chat's from a day prior would come up in the chat with the ability to scroll up. You had to have been on when whatever was typed in though.

Re: Voice Chat for Racketboy!!
I prefer text over voice. The only time I would consider doing any kind of voice chat would be for a fast paced online game where it was too difficult to play and type at the same time.
