yeah, I second noiseredux. Avoid the phat PSP if you want the TV out function. The TV out only works on 2000 and later models.

Also, the 2000 onwards has 64 mb RAM (compared to 32 on the phat), which helps with homebrews, particularly Remotejoylite (which allows you to connect your PSP to the PC through the USB and play using the PC's monitor and your keyboard/usb gamepad). I used to do this a lot when I'm just going to play at home. Saves the battery because the screen can be turned off while playing, and I can button mash like hell without worrying about wearing out the PSP's buttons (generic usb gamepads for the PC are much easier to replace)

I've never gotten RemoteJoy to work. I mean I get it to sync, but I start a game up and it just crashes.

I'll be trying to pick up a PSP 3000 within the next few days. Seems that the newest models offer interlaced and progressive scan video + a mic which might be useful for Skype calls.

Looking forward to actually playing some games! With the PS3 sat there I haven't had the urge to play a thing.

Compatibility is iffy (and the stability is very dependent on the settings, I just followed a guide back then, since the options for the remotejoy I had was in japanese). I know from experience that burnout legends and God of War crashes the program regardless of the setting. The ones that I was able to get working were Dragonball Z shin budokai, Bleach Heat the Soul 5, FF crisis core and Tekken 5.

And turbo, another nifty thing you can do with a PC, a CFW PSP, hostcore, and a reasonably long USB cable, is to store all the ISOs on the PC and just stream them through usb or wifi if you want to play (think: hundreds of gigs of storage space).

That sounds like a great solution to what I can imagine will become a problem for me sooner or later. Particularly with the amount of PS1 RPG's I own.

I've found the PSP-3000 works just fine for Skype calls. I don't think you can text chat with it, unfortunately.
