Yes, communities count as long as they revolve around something, like a video game.yomomma1 wrote:Does Fanbase=community? Because if so Runescape has the worst for any video game.

Re: The worst fanbases
I tend to find music snobs, elitist, hipsters whatever you want to call them the most annoying fanbase. This applies especially to snobby metal heads and there's a LOT of them. I'm always amazed by how much some people look down on others just for their choice of music
I also hate that certain type of hardcore gamer that wants every title to be super hard and hates any game that isn't sadistically hard. I'm all for challenging titles but some people take the idea too far leading to us getting stuff like the cheap BS in Ninja Gaiden 2, the insane survivor achievements in the original Dead Rising or the annoying die and start the whole stage over nonsense of Demon Souls. What bugs me is when they complain about modern games and say that back in the NES era everything was hard. That's bull. There were tons of games in the NES era that were not super hard. It's one of those BS gaming myths that people love to fall back on

Slight segue but hipsters have been mentioned at least three times now:
I hate the fixed gear "fixie" bike crowd.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: The worst fanbases
This topic presents a great opportunity for me to admit something: I have no idea what hipsters are. Some odd subcultures, like goths, I can regard as real, such as when I see a dude in heavy chain boots, a black leather jacket, eye liner, and a "You smell like dookie" invader zim T-shirt shopping for golden grahams and milk at Food Lion. That's a memorable, weird encounter. Or the bronies. Rainbow furred, anime eyed unicorns just bred like rabbits this past year or something. I noticed it. I thought it was peculiar.
"Hipster", though? I have a hard time seeing it as more than a random derrogatory word thrown around on the Internet all the time. I feel like they're the same as Jackalopes - some mythical animal that may or may not really exist. Maybe I'm living under a rock.

Re: The worst fanbases
So, even if the entire fanbase abided by your standards of keeping to only the farthest reaches of the Internet and never posting a single pony image again, you would still say that they were the worst fanbase ever because of the subject matter alone? I'm sorry, I have tried to remain civil throughout this discussion, but that is just flat-out WRONG. The pony fanbase, Ponychan in particular, is one of the scant few places on the Internet where people actually care about each other and help each other out when they need support. How can human kindness and decency be the makings of the worst fanbase in existence? Finally, as for your claim that the only people who don't relentlessly spam ponies are 5-year-old girls, you do know that there are several fans of the show here on Racketboy, none of which spam images and are instead civil and helpful community members? Just wanted to let you know. Your thoughts?yomomma1 wrote:The pony fanbase is so bad, that even if they did that they would still be seen as one of the worst fanbases from outside.

Sorry BoringSupreez, but I have to defend my honor. This should explain my motivations quite clearly:BoringSupreez wrote:Hey, let's not turn this thread into a big argument. lisalover1 likes ponies, and others here don't like seeing them. Let's just leave it at that.

Re: The worst fanbases
It's worth mentioning in these kinds of discussions that correlation does not imply causation. Sonic, Final Fantasy, the entire shmup genre, Naruto, vel sim. do not create these 'worst fanbases' by some independent quality, but are mediums that attract, through common means, the kind of frothing, indignant individuals that haunt the most foul recesses of the internet. In short, Fanboys gonna fanboy, but every fan-base is constructed of a wide population with differing attitudes and viewpoints.
Yeah. Sonic fans are the worse though.

Wait, so the majority of Racketboy doesn't like Sonic games? I mean, I don't go around in furry suits or sit around drawing Sonic the Hedgehog pictures. But I've always thought the 2D Sonic games are amazing. The Genesis titles, the handheld titles, and the recent Sonic 4.

Not saying anything about the "bronies" or whatever they're called. I don't have cable, so I don't watch television, and I don't really do much on the internet beyond here.lisalover1 wrote:Sorry BoringSupreez, but I have to defend my honor.BoringSupreez wrote:Hey, let's not turn this thread into a big argument. lisalover1 likes ponies, and others here don't like seeing them. But didn't we have to ask you at one point to tone down all the pony stuff? I seem to remember you positing an awful lot about it at one point, and some members seemed to get annoyed.
