Haha, that's funny (plus Nathan's M&M's commercial played before the video -- funny coincidence). But I also can't say I draw a direct correlation between wealth and worth, either. Actually, come to think of it, the Ayn Rand fanbase may well be my least favorite...MrPopo wrote:http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colber ... dulux-6000
Kind of interesting that the people who have money don't give two shits about marijuana.

Re: The worst fanbases
I'm for legalization and regulation. Unfortunately what you've said is true. If people want it legalized being doped up all day long sure isn't going to help. I like weed, but most of the people that do annoy the hell out of me. You don't hear me talking all day about how great weed is and how it should be legalized etc etc. I tend to think of the cannabis crowd as a subdivision of the hipster crowd. It's "cool" and "progressive".Original_Name wrote:The cannabis fanbase. Granted, I have a Minor Threat avatar hanging out below user name, so you might want to take that into consideration and handicap my statements with your own mental counter-weight so that you can come to a more balanced conclusion for yourself. I don't think that smoking weed is the worst thing in the world, but it does lower peoples' standards for what entertains and inspires them. My personal standpoint is that if something is not satisfying with a sober mind, it's not worth putting my left brain on hold in order to convince myself that it's worthwhile -- it means I need to try harder to find or produce more meaningful stimuli for myself, because that will lead to progressively more meaningful and challenging experiences. That said, some of my closest friends as well as historical figures I respect smoked the stuff -- in fact, I had a friend with SEVERE anger-management problems who conquered them using weed as a sort of crutch. I'm hoping this preface will serve to demonstrate that I have a fairly balanced perception of the plant in and of itself.
What bothers me is the army of pot-smokers out there whose only political stance is "Legalize It" -- I agree that marijuana should be legalized (mostly because I'm an environmentalist and producing paper and oil from the plant would be a great service to our planet compared to our current methods of producing those commodities), but the majority of the people behind this cause are absolute fanatics who brilliantly display all the reasons why people still think the plant should be banned in the first place. Most of them don't really care about the environment, economics, or history, but they've memorized a novel of THC talking-points just so that they can convince people to let them smoke more pot -- they'll never get behind another political cause because of their laziness and ignorance... and it gets mighty difficult not to make a correlation between those traits and the plants they're smoking. It's just like the NRA -- I understand why the Second Amendment exists, but the main proponents behind its political cause are precisely the kinds of people that I'd never want to let touch a gun in their lives.
Anyway, it makes me want to see only THC-less strands of cannabis get legalized, just to see them squirm.
I've been using it regularly for a year or so now for anxiety and sleep issues and it's helped with that a lot. I don't talk about it unless prompted and I certainly don't try and make myself seem cool by using it. In fact, there are only 3 or 4 "real" people in my life that know about it.
Also I'm not so sure that marijuana demotivates people or makes people lazy, I think it's more a case of lazy and unmotivated people happen to smoke marijuana.

Yeah, exactly, and I have nothing but respect for people who have an even-headed approach to the stuff, whether they use it or not. But yeah, I'm glad I was able to phrase it in a way that made it clear I was not targeting people like yourself.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I'm for legalization and regulation. What I meant by the "lowering standards" bit wasn't that it has a proven direct causal link to laziness, but people do tend to be entertained by less stimulating things while high. For instance, there are some really lousy movies that people wouldn't be able to enjoy sober, so they get high in order to enjoy the movie. I would say, "Just find a better movie!" I think the number-one cause of drug-related problems taking a hold of peoples' lives begins as simply an inability to cope with boredom. Instead of constructively finding ways out of short-term issues, they turn to a very mild form of deconstruction to make the problem go away -- some people are strong enough to keep this from spiraling into a problem while others sadly are not. Acute usage of marijuana as a way of coping with acute medical conditions is not deserving of criticism in my mind if it continues to offer real benefits -- it's simple alchemy. Feeling like a badass for smoking weed is about the same as feeling like a badass for drinking energy drinks, though. It's absurd.

I agree that it is bad when a few bad apples spam ponies, especially when asked not to, but what is wrong about discussing them in the designated thread? You don't have to click on the thread if you don't want to; it's your own fault if you click on the pony thread and find ponies.yomomma1 wrote:I hate ponies and fanbase, because they flood boards with pony topics. If you mention this, and you want them to stop THEY HIJACK THE THREAD. There does not need to be a discussion of ponies on every forum, and certainly not an active thread 24 hours a day.lisalover1 wrote:So wait, the reason you dislike MLP is because it is popular?yomomma1 wrote:MLP and Invader Zim. The former has died down alot, but MLP is everywhere. It is good to be enthusiastic about what you like, I guess, but the MLP fanbase (excluding 5 year old girls) is a whole different monster.

European football clubs' fanbases......god the things burned down in the name of a stupid ball game......ok I know these guys have nothing to do with the game, and they are just using it as an excuse to be violent...but it's still in the name of the game

Re: The worst fanbases
If I could avoid them, I would by not clicking the post. But they pop up regardless of the discussion. I am talking about the fanbase as a whole. The only parts of the pony fanbase that does not spam images, or keep discussion to designated forums or threads, are the 5 year old fans. The pony fanbase is so bad, that even if they did that they would still be seen as one of the worst fanbases from outside. If someone said that the fanbase or a franchise I liked was the worst I may disagree with them. However I would not agree with their reasons for giving that title, while trying to disagree with them.
Does Fanbase=community? Because if so Runescape has the worst for any video game.

Yes!!! The Runescape community sucks! My brother used to play that game he had nothing good to say about 98% of everyone else online.yomomma1 wrote:
