Metroid Prime Review

Post by AmericanMuffin »

Hello Guys, being most requested, I'm now making a Metroid Prime Review. Please submit any feedback in the reply section. Here's my second review. ( NOW WITH PICTURES!)

Summary

Metroid Prime is a sci-fi first person shooter released for GameCube in 2002, 8 years after the last game. Metroid Prime let's you become Samus Aran, and, from what I understand, she is fighting space pirates and stopping them from doing Biological experiments on Tallon IV. I love the story line and it deserves a 8/10 for a compelling storyline that keeps you into the game.

Gameplay

One of the best things about Metroid Prime is the Gameplay, you get very large, open environments that make you feel like there's plenty of space, this makes it perfect for the shooting part of the game, which I have to say is one of the most fun I've had on any first person shooter. The controls are somewhat hard to get used to if you play mostly XBox first person shooters, but the lock on feature is amazing. Not too easy, not too hard with fitting controls. One other great part of the gameplay is tall the add-ons, they make the game very fast-paced, and you never feel you only need 1 gun the entire game.
For doing such a great job, I'll give Gameplay a 9/10, due to the fact the controls are close to perfect, but they didn't get some parts right.

Graphics

The graphics really do fit the game. The way it looks is really good for GameCube, it includes a lot of levels that are always different and beautiful. The design is also really good for them and the way things look really fit the futuristic, action-y part of the game. For being a little bit above average, I'll give it an 8/10

Music

All I can say about the sound and music is beautiful, I really like it, but sometimes there isn't very loud music, but I think the sound makes up for it, the sound effects are perfect, and so is the music, it may seem I go easy on music, but for not being a music game it REALLY deserves a 10/10

Overall

If you have a GameCube, I highly recommend you pick this classic up. Especially if you like first person shooters. This game is also very cheap, but it's WAY better than what it's worth. I'll give this game a 9/10 for doing an amazing job with gameplay and music, with graphics that are a little bit higher than usual.

Nice Review
I have 1 and 2 for the Gamecube and was put off by the controls at first. Once learned, its not bad. The ball is a great feature viewed from 3rd person perspective. I was watching Metroid videos on the Nintendo Channel which showed all three Metroids as the Wii Trilogy set. I have to pick up Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Gamestop has the single game used for under ten bucks. I am killing myself for not picking up the Trilogy when it clearanced out. Oh well, at least I can complete the collection and try Metroid Corruption with the Wii instant aim Motion Controls. I'll see which offers a better game play and post on my Wii Thread.

I love the Prime series! I've been itching to play Corruption too but I never felt like it was enough of a reason to pick up a Wii. I think I just might though because I also really want to play Super Metroid on it's virtual console.

I see what you mean. The Wii is pretty cool, though!

Edited your opening paragraph a bit. There's no need to ask for people to refrain from that because we don't generally have a problem with it. This is not 4chan, gamefaqs, or random fanboy forum X.

Nice overview of the game. I've been thinking about picking this one up at some point along with Wind Waker and Mario Sunshine. My GameCube is mostly used for my Game Boy Player as I only have a couple GameCube games right now.

Mario Sunshine is an awesome game, too. Might review that one next week

Metroid Prime is so cool! It was my second Gamecube game in 2003 I think (first was Sonic Adventure 2). It sorta made me feel like I was really there... it has a very creepy and compelling atmosphere.

Thanks for the review, I just finished Super Metroid, so I guess I'll be moving onto Prime next.

Have you played all the 2-d ones, OP?
