Cool picture. I've got a PCE Duo R and the original PC Engine controller (no turbos)
Re: Wanting to buy a turbografx, need some pointers please!
I shouldn't really be spending the money right now, especially when a system would cost 80-100 and games $15 (in a lot of cases) and up. It's easy to justify playing a 7800 right now when I already have the system, and the "rarest" game is $20 lol. Maybe down the road, hopefully prices won't inflate by then (would be something cool to have though)

Cool, although I would've bought a Core Grafx pad, since I'm a bit OCDish when it comes to matching controllers with the console.Icedawg wrote:Just wanted to update this post.

Further down the line, you might want to get a stereo cable for your Coregrafx, but the mono one will for sure work until that time.
If you want to go CD, you have a couple options to still use your Core Grafx with. I tried to find pictures that have them with your black/blue Core Grafx:
#1:
Get a CD-ROM2 with Interface Unit (IFU). Technically they are sold separately (the square CD-ROM unit as one, the briefcase thing that joins them the other), but these days they usually come together. It has no built in system BIOS, so you will need to get a BIOS card.
BIOS card:
-System 1.0 (only plays Altered Beast, AFAIK)
-System 2.0 (plays regular CD-ROM2 games)
-Super System 3.0 (plays Super CD games and System 2.0 games. This covers you for 96% or so of PCE CD games)
-Arcade Card Pro (plays Arcade Card games, Super CD game and System 2.0 games. There are only a few games that require this card; mostly Neo Geo conversions and a really good shoot 'em up)
This unit is prone to breakage, as one of the plastic gears in the system is weak and is difficult to replace.

#2
Get a Super CD-ROM2 unit. This is a simple option, as you just plug it in and play. No system card is required, as it has the 3.0 Super CD BIOS built in. You can get an Arcade Card if you want access to Arcade Card games (either the Arcade Card Pro or Arcade Card Duo will work just fine), but you will already be able to play 96% of PC Engine CD games. This is also a solid unit with no known issues.

Hard to find a good picture! People don't really like to mix colour schemes.
Also, the system card in the slot is completely redundant. I don't know why they
put it there.
You could also get a Duo system, but it would make your Core Grafx redundant. Might as well just get one of the two models of the CD add-on.

How much does it cost to have someone Mod it?retrosportsgamer wrote:Nice - are looking to mod it to play US cards also?Icedawg wrote:Just wanted to update this post.

Unsure I only have a desire to play the PCE games otherwise I would have just picked up a TG16. I hear how good CD is, and everyone tells me how great some of the stuff is... but mostly I prefer cartridges if at all possible, just don't like CDs
Re: Wanting to buy a turbografx, need some pointers please!
If you ignore the CDs, you'd REALLY be missing out. There are more CD games on the PCE than HuCard games. The majority of the higher rated games on it are on the CD format.Icedawg wrote:

Ahh for now I am going to stick with the system and HuCards
It will be a week or two until I get the system, then I am going to move from there. I'm on the lookout for a 2 button controller (purchased a 3 button) and also a 6 button, what should I expect to pay for said controllers?

Most games only need the 2 button so you don't need to worry about the 6 until you get a game that needs extra like SFII.
