How hard can it be? Follow the line till it meets with another line and change to that line.

Sure, it doesn't seem scary or complicated to city-dwellers like us, but to country folks metropolitan train stations seem like an overcrowded, confusing anthill of people going in a thousand different directions. I'm used to it because I grew up in an urban area, but my little sister freaked out when she rode the D.C. metro because she was raised in the country.
Back on topic, If you love trains, you absolutely must see Grand Central. It's not a museum; it's living history. It's the largest train terminal in the world. The craftsmanship which went into its construction is absolutely breathtaking. Take a moment to enjoy the astronomical mural on the ceiling of the main concourse. If things grow too hectic, you can always calm your nerves at the Oyster bar.

The stereotyping of rural folks in this thread is pretty

You're not feeling a little sensitive, are you dsh? I related a real life experience, and I tried to empathize with country folks. I don't believe that anyone here insulted rural folks.
Now get back on your turnip truck, bumpkin!
I kid because I love. I live out in the country now, and I'm sure the folks out here think I'm some kind of weirdo.

I'm not scared of the complexity, I'm scared of trains that look like cans on wheels and stations that look like public restroomsfvgazi wrote:General Subway stuff if you're scared.
Uptown Trains: Go north and towards the Bronx
Downtown Trains: Go South and terminate in either Queens or Brooklyn
(NYC is in between them all)
If you get on the wrong one, get off at the next stop and take the train going the other direction.. for free! Plus, most people are nice enough to help you out nowadays.
Really, it doesn't surprise me Americans are so keen on driving their own private cars with a public transport that is infested by rats.
Probably several routes use the same tracks and stations, like the London Metro does.ZeroAX wrote:How hard can it be? Follow the line till it meets with another line and change to that line.

But I was raised in the country as well, and had no idea adjusting to big city life. Then again when I had free time I just rode the public transport to explore, without doing anything specific, so might just be the strange one here XD
@Norris, yeah I imagine, but I had no problem with London. On the contrary I found the maps really helpful

If you have a Sunday that you can spend in Western New York State, check out the New York Museum of transportation. They have all kinds of old trains. You can even take a trolly ride while you visit. It's located in Rush, NY. They're only open on Sundays.

I just distinctly remember my roommate from college who had never been to NYC (from Jamestown NY) and he nearly pissed his pants from viewing the skyline off the highway.
I had also met someone from Montana who had no idea what an ipod was.
Don't worry dsh, there are plenty of people in the NY metro area who have never seen a cow (so we suck as well).
