This just came out on gog too. I haven't played it yet though.Ack wrote:If you can find a working copy, you might be able to track down the adventure game Scratches, though getting any sort of tech support for it is now impossible, and the copy I own simply does not work.

Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
I'll have to pick it up there then. I've seriously tried my copy in four different machines. One of them didn't recognize that a disc had been put in the drive, one went Blue Screen of Death on me whenever it tried to load the contents of the CD, one installed it but then would crash out any time I tried running it, and one just refused to install. I've given up on playing it.
Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
I've been meaning to pick up an echo night game for a while now, but haven't found any about my local stores. Same with I have no mouth and I must scream, but when it does turn up around here theyve been charging too much... I've only played shadow of the comet and prisoner of ice on emulators sadly. Didn't like sanitarium. Haven't heard of the dark eye of the path yet, thanks!
Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
Oh, I loved The Lurking Horror, so if there are any other great text based games I'll keep an eye out for them!
Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
Sure, I'll look around a bit to see if I can come up with a few more for you.
Oh, speaking of horror games, you've probably played it, but if not, check out Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It's buggy, but it's well worth looking into.

Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
It sounds like you're pretty well versed in the horror genre already, but here's a few more to consider:

Also, a few RPGs deal with darker themes, such as the Shin Megami Tensei series and Eternal Poison.
PC

The 11th Hour
Bad Mojo
Beautiful Escape: Dungeoneer (free)
Call of Cthulhu
Cold Fear
Dark Seed

Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
JT, do you really consider Trapt and Indigo Prophecy to be horror games? I've played them both, and neither one strikes me as really fitting it. Indigo Prophecy does at first, but it falls apart about half way through. Trapt has more of the trappings, but I just can't bring myself to call it that.
Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
Admittedly, they are a debatable. I think they both have pretty strong horror elements, and I'm mentioning them here only because Blurz has already heard of so many of the games I would think to mention.Ack wrote:JT, do you really consider Trapt and Indigo Prophecy to be horror games? Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
Intruiging... Are the PC versions of Cold Fear and The Suffering different enough from the PS2 couterparts to warrant a purchase?
Re: Non-shooter horror game recommendations?
I've never been able to get the PC version of Cold Fear to properly install actually, and others have had similar problems. Better off on console.Blurz wrote:Intruiging... Are the PC versions of Cold Fear and The Suffering different enough from the PS2 couterparts to warrant a purchase?
The Suffering is free here:

The graphics look good on PC, so you might want to try it. I don't know if there are substantial differences from the PS2 otherwise, as I've only tried the PC version.
