So here is what I was thinking for a setup:
1. Using the PC Engine Duo for all CD games (mostly American).
2. Buying an American Turbografx-16 (I've seen them around here for $70-ish) to play American hucards (is that what the games on those little cards are called?).
Make sense?
That is the set up I have too, the only thing that sucks is that you can't save with the TG-16 unless you get a booster+. Most games have passwords but you'll lose your high scores and sometimes the passwords are a pain in the butt like Neutopia. Also you are stuck with the funky TG-16 pad with the huge din end so you can't use a nice Avenue pad with it.
Make sure to join over at http://www.PCEnginefx.com/forums a member there just made a batch of region mod chips and will have them available soon. Then you can just mod your duo r and that'll handle all you NEC gaming needs

FYI, you can actually play HuCard ROMS from a burnt CD on your Duo. Google it. So, even if you want to be as legit as possible without modded your system, if you get a Japanese copy of Neutopia or something, just download the ROM onto a disc and play the English version without a guilty conscious. AWESOME!
As for accessories, if you haven't got it yet, you might want a multitap. You can get either a 3-way or 5-way tap. Just remember that the TG-16 one will NOT work, as the connections are different. Both a PC Engine multitap or a Turboduo one will work just fine. For some reason, they made the TG-16 control port larger than on the PC Engine, but then went with the PCE standard when the Turboduo was released in America. Likewise, you can use Turboduo controllers on any PC Engine, but not TG-16 controllers.
That's awesome about the Hu Cards. Thanks.
I've looked at some multi-taps. The ones for the Duo-R are not expensive at all - which is a refreshing change.
don't jam your laser by being cheap and playing burns. If you are going to go that route, just stick to emulators for the rare or expensive games and stick to originals on your duo. PCE is probably one of the most fun systems to collect for so keep it real!

I know people who've played burnt copies for over a decade and their system has been fine. Just don't over do it, that's all.
Some people want to play Sapphire or Bonk 3 CD on their original system, but don't want to crack that sealed copy they have on display.
I can vouch for this seller http://shop.ebay.com/theyellowarmy/m.ht ... m=&_ipg=25
great guy and puts up pc engine system and game lots for excellent prices but they go quick. He's also is an avid PCE gamer and expat living in Asia so you can get really great customer service. He sells off ebay too on the PCE forums as RR1980. Might be able to message him directly on ebay.

Yeah, I've chatting to him before at PCEFX. Seems like a legit guy.
I used to undersell him like a bastard. Not in bulk though, so I don't think I really cut into anyone's sales!

He's got some cool stuff. I'm guessing that Neo Geo CD is the first edition that has speed issues. Certainly not a bad price.

Technically that is the second version of the NGCD. Three were released. The first two differ effectively only in appearance. The third is the CDX that has some marginally better loading speeds... marginally.
