Gaming Parents: Do your parents game with you?

My parents 'tolerate' my gaming. My dad used to arcade game back in the day, and even then only once in a while, and he only really played Pacmman and Centipede. My mom likes the idea, but hates playing them, and me talking about them. My dad is not technologically advanced, so I'm lucky he even bought games for the right system. My mom is a Global IT manager for her company, and she understands, but does not like.

They quit buying games for me at 10, so I don't have nearly as many as I used too. I also have to limit what I get, as being around 16 I can't really make much money until I can drive and its summer....

I was happy to have my dad watch Tom & Jerry with me. It was one of the few cartoons he "got".

Ha! Used to watch Marsupalami and Beakman's World with my dad. We even went to see Beakman Live once. It was the 2 of us looking out of place with some chaperone mothers and a bunch of kids. It was awesome and we didn't care.

My dad played games with me up until 3d became the new thing, as he couldn't really deal with the extra dimension I suppose.

We were always playing stuff at the arcade together like this big screen clay shooter, I don't remember the name of it, but you used what felt like a full sized .22 to shoot clay targets. The game looked exactly like the clay pidgeon mode in duck hunt.

He also loved the OG mortal kombat, it was funny to hear on the news about parents outraged, and banning it, meanwhile my day would always challenge me to a few rounds at the arcade during that same time. We also went to go see the MK movie together later actually.

Man we played a lot back then actually, Joe montanna football, lethal enforcers, street fighter, any konami beat'em up, hang on. I guess they were mostly sports,racing and shooting, but damn it isn't that what a fathers supposed to teach his son anyway? How to play sports, drive and hunt? He just did it in video game form:)
He taught me all that stuff in real life too(well fishing, not hunting), but the gaming is the part that sticks with me the most, and is what made him the coolest dad amongst my friends. I could go on but this is getting pretty long. Short of it is my dad rocked.

Growing up, I would play board/card games with my parents but never any video games. It wasn't of interest to them. Now they're retired, they do play some games on their Macs. My father enjoys playing Flight Simulator and free flash web games on sites like nabiscoworld.com. My mother enjoys playing Snood.

Hopefully my daughters will have fond memories of me playing Wii/Gamecube/Xbox games with them. Lately, they haven't touched the consoles in favor of websites like neopets.com & their DS.

I know what you mean. My younger sister doesn't play Sega anymore. Now it's all Webkinz and Club Penguin.

My parents aren't really gamers, but I have convinced them over the years to play a few games with me. They both played in the 70's/80's, so they have fond memories and don't mind the occasional participation (I'm determined to find my mother a copy of Centipede she can play here at home and my dad has requested Zaxxon. It's on my ps2 genesis collection, I just haven't unlocked it yet )

Back when my original NES still worked, my mom would rent me video games from the local store. There may have been others, but the only game I actually remember her playing with me, was Chip n' Dale. Since I've gotten a new NES I've gotten her to play TMNT 2 and Yoshi's cookie. She didn't really like Yoshi's cookie too much, but she enjoyed TMNT 2 I've found my second turtle

When I got an N64 I could get both of my parents to play a few rounds of Smash Brothers with me. But after a couple of fights they'd complain that their eyes hurt (My aunt complained about the same thing when she saw me playing Banjo Kazooie. I'm gonna just write it off as an age thing). I did get my dad to play a few racing and wrestling games though.

Now that I've got the Wii I've gotten my mom to play some Mario Kart and my dad actually really enjoys the Wii sports games.

Now my aunt used to play the NES all the time. I have fond memories of watching her play SMB3, Islands of Adventure 1 & 2, Tiny Toons, and even The Little Mermaid (All the children in the family were really young when she bought those last two.) I used to love watching her beat SMB3 when I was younger. And even when she got a little older and said, "Screw it. This is taking too long" and used the whistles to skip islands, it was still fun to watch her play
I still remember the first time she accidentally dropped the red dinosaur from Adventure Island 2 in the lava. She cursed up a storm and then laughed like an idiot when she realized the little bugger was immune and started jumping all through the lava. Fun moment

My dad always played F-ZERO on SNES with me back in the day. We would try to best each others' times. We do that now with Gran Turismo 5 whenever he comes over.

I just remembered something, even though I already responded about my parents on the first page.

I played quite a few games with my aunt when I was a kid, the earliest being tetris and Mario Brothers. She always wanted me to sell her my NES.

Eventually, she got a super nintendo and a few games over the years, and we used to play that together as well. She was actually the one who introduced me to Zelda by playing Link to the Past, and helping me get through it as well on my own playthrough when I visited.

Remember the old man in that game, Sahasralah? She always used to call him Sassafras. As a kid, I thought that was hilarious, and to this day I still call him Sassafras.

Its odd to me to remember how she used to help me with that game, and nowadays I have the whole game memorized to near speed run levels.

I always find it funny when I have a nostalgia trip, because I can get them easily. Earlier, I turned on my gameboy and played some Harvest Moon, and my dad looked over my shoulder and said, "Aaaah, memories...." This reminded me of when he bought it for me. We had been hauling a load of momma cows from Victoria back home, in the middle of the night. We stopped at about 2 in the morning in a small town to get some soda. I had been sleeping, and my dad had woke me up. We got sodas, and then he walked into a game store, which was oddly open at 2 in the morning, and he bought me that game.

I nearly cried. I have so many little trips from things like this. Addmitedly, I even have nostalgia trips for stuff that only happened a year ago. I'm prone... I think I need to get checked by my doctor.

My dad actually loves cartoons, mostly anime. Watches Cowboy Bebop and anyting Captain Harlock.
