I don't see any reason why it would be...

Depends on what version you use. I think 1.5 was the last version, with almost 100% compatibility, but I could be wrong...

It's more risky installing the modchip in the first place, instead of just leaving the DC alone, but once it's in, I think the all risk is gone.

I was merely saying it's not any riskier to use than on other consoles. Of course the less you have to tinker with your DC the better...

I think he was asking whether or not it's more difficult to solder a DC modchip in place than it is on other consoles.
If that's what you meant theclaw, then no, it's an easy job.

Add a switch to your Dreamcast so you don't have to open your console every time you want to change regions. Just make sure the connection is always open when you're not using the region changer disc. Leaving the connection closed may corrupt your Dreamcast and brick it giving you the Black Swirl of Death...[/quote]
I've done this one-wire mod to several dreamcasts and used all of them for years. My "main" one has been this way for at least 4 years with no issue. While I don't re-flash the region very often at all, I've never seen an issue leaving the wire there, and there's no need to re-open the console at all. It's there, and I can change regions at will. I suppose putting a switch on it to be super safe wouldn't be a bad idea, but if I have to spend a whopping $30 on a new console I'm not going to cry about it.
Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

D2 doesn't save before changing discs, it just loads straight into the game (i.e. a screen just props up saying you need to change to disc 2 or whatever, and then putting the new disc in continues the game from where it left off).
And that is yet another problem with the utopia disc... It doesn't work for multi-disc games unless it's one that forces the player to save before swapping discs. However these games work absolutely fine on DCX and Codebreaker.

THAT was the one. Any thoughts why a DCX/GameShark work and the Utopia doesn't?
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis. Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.
