That explains why it feels so much like a Clock Tower game.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Haunting Ground was originally going to be Nintendogs, but took a decidedly darker direction.

I think Infinity Blade (iphone/ipad) was supposed to be a Kinect game with a different title at one point, however I'm not sure if the game itself changed or if they just decided to go with another platform and thought of a better name.

Some elements of the game did (all range mode, Star Wolf) but I'd say the core of the game is more like Star Fox Command.

Really? wow!
Could the 32x have handled it? I doubt it. It would like stale in comparison, right?

To go real old school, Yar's Revenge originally started as a home port of Star Castle, but the limitations of the Atari 2600 led the designer to use the premise of Star Castle to create a whole new (and IMO much better) game.

Mario 2/Doki Doki Panic began as a two player, vertical scrolling platformer that was going to be based around the players throwing each other around. It never made it past the prototype stage in that form, and the ideas lay dormant for a bit before they decided to use some of them for a whole new platformer.

It wasn't canceled though. Tecmo simply bought it and tweaked it a bit so they'd have an easy NG game ready to go on handheld.

I think it could have easily handled it. The 3D effects in SotN were extremely limited. 32X has done more difficult 3D than that. The 2D parts of the game would be no challenge at all. The only places for concern would be the high quality prerecorded music and the sheer size of the game--both easily solved by making it a CD32X game.

All of that is moot though, since the plans for the game were evidently quite different while it was on 32X. Supposedly, it would have been more like Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine Super CD-ROM2, with a story involving rival vampire hunters. Only some sprites survived from this could-have-been game, and that's all SotN seems to have in common with it. The ideas to make Alucard the main character and to make the game play more like Metroid or an ARPG appear to have come along later.

The Wii is full of these:

Metroid Prime 3 (GCN) was turned into Metroid Prime 3 Corruption

Donkey Kong Bongo Blast for the GCN became Donkey Kong Barrel Blast for the Wii

Kirby (GCN) was canned and the ideas are being reused as Kirby (Wii)

Paper Mario 3 (GCN) became Super Paper Mario (Wii).

Mario 128 for the N64 became Super Mario Galaxy (Wii).
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
