This should really be Grandfathered in, especially for any customer that has been loyal for five years. I understand a price increase, but doubling the monthly fee just seems greedy.

I'm sure there is an online petition somewhere, and if not, the person who creates one could make a shit ton of revenue on ads.

I don't think it's greedy. I think it's been inevitable for the last two or three years. Early on, they got some sweetheart deals with a few studios to stream their films because the studios didn't realize how much it would cost them. Now the content providers are a lot more protective of their stuff, and want more money to license it. It's got to come from somewhere.

Netflix has been a ridiculously good deal for years now-- and it's a much better deal today than it was five or so years ago when my wife and I first joined. Eventually things have to level out, especially with the move to streaming.

Actually Netflix's providers decided that they should pay more than double for access to their libraries. This is more the fault of the studios than netflix.
Regardless I'll be going down to streaming only, their bluray selection sucks anyways.

If they go all digital, then it would be nice to see their entire DVD selection up for streaming. That is pretty unrealistic, but I would definitely pay more for that.

yeah, we use the streaming WAY more than the DVD's. But I'm thinking that as more people switch to streaming only, they'll start to put more of their selection up for streaming. Sucks but I don't see the value in paying double to keep the DVD's.

I use both frequently now -- but I'm cable-free now, so it's my only video entertainment cost.

Also, it's worth mentioning, they don't have to compete with Blockbuster anymore.
Although... there's still Redbox. But I've never been a big fan of Redbox. Seems like the selection always sucks when I've gotten something and Netflix has spoiled me with the whole return-via-mailbox thing.

Netflix streaming is great for when you aren't looking for anything in particular (you can be surprised by the stuff they have on there), but sucks horribly when you are looking for one thing in particular. They lack a inch of my favorite movies and shows, many of which are pretty popular: Forrest Gump, Ferris Beuller's Day Off, Corner Gas (Can any Canadian Netflix owners confirm that they don't have this at all?), Seinfeld, The Drew Carey Show, Sideways, Groundhog Day, Juno, The Truman Show, Watchmen, etc. I know that a lot of these are really popular, so I was surprised to not see them available.

Although I use streaming more, I still have use for the DVD side of things since not everything is on streaming yet.

A 60% price increase is really crappy, I'm kind of on the fence here. Guess I have till September to decide. :/

Netflix should remember, they're competing with free.
