Cancelled games that you wish were released
Re: Cancelled games that you wish were released
The original Ultima 9, before it was scrapped so they could make Ultima Online. Featured party members and 3D but an overhead isometric view like previous Ultimas. Instead we got the overly simplified Ultima 9 "Tomb Raider" edition.
WTB: 2600 Solar Fox, Solaris, HERO 7800 Space Duel XBox Ninja Gaiden Black Genesis/CD Shadowrun DC KOF 98 Disc only, Powerstone 2 SNES Shadowrun

Ultima 9 wasn't that bad, it was simple but it was still fun. It was what a PC elitist would call "consolization" without consoles involved.da66en wrote:The original Ultima 9, before it was scrapped so they could make Ultima Online. here's a tribute video of Earthbound 64 with actual footage of the game.:CFFJR wrote:I remember seeing screenshots for Earthbound 64 in Nintendo Power.
That's all that ever came of it as well if I recall.
also, another canceled game i would be interested in is Super Mario FX for the SNES, which eventually became Super Mario 64.

was there really going to be a 3d mario game for the snes?sevin0seven wrote: also, another canceled game i would be interested in is Super Mario FX for the SNES, which eventually became Super Mario 64.
it definitely would have been interesting to see how that would have turned out. but, in the long run it probably was best it was saved for the n64.
if you took a shit, please put it back

"The development of Super Mario 64 took less than two years, but producer and director Shigeru Miyamoto had conceived of a 3D Mario game, called Super Mario FX, over five years before, while working on Star Fox. Miyamoto developed most of the concepts during the era of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and considered using the Super FX chip to make it a SNES game, but decided to develop it for the Nintendo 64 due to the former system's technical limitations."

Unless I'm mistaken, "Super Mario FX" never actually started development as such, though. It was just a concept.sevin0seven wrote:from wikipedia:

from IGN:flamepanther wrote:Unless I'm mistaken, "Super Mario FX" never actually started development as such, though. It was just a concept.
"This Mario project was originally going to be Nintendo's follow-up to Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2, and was being designed utilizing the power of the Super-FX chip to bring gamers in Mario's worlds of adventure in a whole new way with three-dimensional graphics. Unfortunately, the project was a production nightmare in the pioneering days of 3D videogame design and was underpowered with just the SNES and Super-FX chip powering it -- Shigeru Miyamoto and his team spent five years toiling on Mario FX, but it never met satisfaction and never worked as effortlessly and engagingly as a Mario game should. The project was cancelled, and work instead turned to the new Ultra 64 (and Nintendo 64) gaming console, where Mario finally found firm footing in 3D realms with Super Mario 64."
